MattFallsFast 0 #1 January 24, 2006 It might be nice to have dropzone specific forums, essentially allowing us to post under a heading for our local DZ. There are not that many DZs in the country, and they could be divided up into folders for each USPA region to allow quick access. This would also clear some dropzone specific traffic out of the general forums (like the "anyone coming out to the DZ this weekend" or "Hey guys I'm in town next month" posts) HOWEVER, I see why you might not want this since it would likely just end up a forum for gossip and personal attacks. Still, it'd be nice as I travel to be able to just click on the forum for that DZ to see the latest goings-on. Have any thoughts?
lisamariewillbe 1 #2 January 24, 2006 You do realize there is over 304 Dropzones just in North America right?Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
MattFallsFast 0 #3 January 24, 2006 Quote You do realize there is over 304 Dropzones just in North America right? OK, but I see only about 25 or 30 DZs as the main posters here. Still, if say half the total DZs have a dedicated forum, that's 150 divided into regional catogories I think it wouldn't be insurmountable. Maybe 25 per region if you don't count the less active DZs? Broke 0 #4 January 25, 2006 It might even generate more people posting. On another board I am on there are people who stick with thier reigional chapter boards just to avoid the clutter in the other forums.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. CSpenceFLY 1 #5 January 31, 2006 I think regional forums might work. But you would also need lots of Mods. to keep the pissing contests to a minimum. .
Broke 0 #6 February 3, 2006 Also the biggest question is how would you break up the regions?Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192
brianfry713 0 #7 February 7, 2006 USPA broke up the US DZ's into regions already.BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
PhreeZone 20 #8 February 8, 2006 What value is being added to Dropzone.com if this is created? For the cost of bandwidth does it increase a revenue stream at all? There is a lot of mud slinging in the fourms right now, but a lot of it is on the low key side since coming out and posting it tends to get people locked and posts deleted. Now imagine an entire fourm designed just for that type of talk. The Mods have enough on their hand just keeping the Bonfire and SC cleaned up, I would'nt want to imagine the workload if you had to monitor every post to see if someone is making attacks against someone else. Then you'll get complaints of "Favoritism" if Mod A is from Dropzone A and deletes a post from someone from Dropzone B talking about Dropzone A. Chaos is the end result and for no gain to the general user of these fourms. Lots of DZ websites are getting their own fourms now so thats a better solution.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Broke 0 #9 February 9, 2006 You can also look at it this way lets say some starts a thread "Any CT jumpers aroung here want a gas rider?" They post in the Bonfire because where else would you post this. The it gets burried quickly, and the target people don't get a change to see this topic. That would be one benefit from a regional forum. If you are concerned about a pissing contest between different DZs in a region. Just make sure the mod dosen't live in the region that they are moderaiting.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly.
