FallRate 0 #1 April 16, 2001 This past weekend at Aerodrome Skysports a local jumper forgot to fasten her chinstrap on her new Mindwarp and lost it at about 14 grand (on exit). If you really wanted crash protection (and as you said, nothing will help you in a bounce), a super-tough helmet is nearly useless - it will just transmit the force of the impact straight to your skull. You'd want something that will shatter, deform, whatever, because that energy won't get spent on your cranium. Now that I think about it, there was a thread a while ago about helmets used in NASCAR and the open-wheeled circuits..... Too lazy to go find it. It's to protect you on a lower speed problem such as a low turn or just f'd up landing. I doubt anyone would argue that a helmet would help with a colision at terminal velocity.Anyway, anyone else have an opinion on the Boneheads? We did or should I say attemted a 12way one time and the whole formation (8way,base and 4pods) collapsed onto itself or funneled I guess you would call it. Anyway I lost count how many times I hit peoples heads, gear or bodys in those brief seconds with my head. All's I got is a protec but it did the job up there. SkymonkeyONE 4 #13 July 10, 2001 Technique is key in that environment. I grab my hands together in front of me, diving board style, for the first second off the ramp. This keeps shoes out of my face. Bug hats (full face helmets) are great for very-fast 4 and 8-way and in the cold, but I hardly ever wear mine for anything else.I have two custom mindwarps now (because I am such a pimp), and love them. herv 0 #16 July 11, 2001 Put your oven on bake and pre-heat to 150 degrees. Turn oven OFF. Put helmet on cookie sheet and place in middle of the oven ensuring it doesn't touch any sides or top. Leave in oven for 10-15 minutes. Take helmet out and place on your head pushing down toward your ears and pushing ear pieces inward. Wear until helmet cools. Remove from noggin.
