API for Dropzones database for mobile app

Wondering if you guys are open to exposing your dropzone data either via API or another method. Thinking of building a general-purpose skydiving iPhone app and a cool feature would be a dropzone database would definitely be cool to have.

Unfortunately not at this stage, as it stands the dropzone database isn't open to the public. However, it is something we plan to do later this year if all goes according to plan.

Not a techie but can you "scrape" it?

We highly recommend against 'scraping', as a lot of what is in the dropzone section is still copyrighted content owned by us.

With that said, we're still working to get an API up and running when we launch the new site (which we have been working on for a while now). Once that happens, we hope to give developers a way to easily and legally get our data for their purposes.

I can understand articles being copyrighted but the OP is about the DZ database, that's not copyrighted or copyrightable or is it?

Not all of it, but some of it is. It's impossible to copyright things like telephone numbers and numerical factual data point, however in some cases things like descriptions have been written by the submitter or the DZ and remain under their ownership.
