Has anyone else noticed a problem with the search function?

I've encountered this a couple of times, but just assumed I was typing in words wrong, but now I'm sure I'm not.

What I'll do is look for an old post by typing a couple of words I know are in the title, and sometimes lately the post won't turn up in the search results.

For example, I was just looking for a post I made about 6 months ago titled "Dyeing jumpsuit report." I did a search, but couldn't find it. So I clicked through the Gear & Rigging forum to make sure it was still there, and it was...

It seems that the search function won't return threads past a certain date, I don't know what that date is, but I too have encountered this.

Its not a date thing, its more of a fourm verison thing i think. There have been 3 major upgrades to the newer fourms and it seems only the last 2 are searchable. The first one is'nt and the orginal fourms is'nt either. I did a huge write up on raft jumps and can't find it anymore either.

It hasn't been that long since I could pull up posts from February 2001 with the search function. I'm pretty sure it's been since this last upgrade. This is something I've only noticed pretty recently.

EDIT: I just did a search for any posts by my username but without any keywords, and it turned up all of them.

Same problem here, in the last few weeks my searches started returning much less results.

Also, are the old forum archives (http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi) searchable? There is a search there but it doesn't return any results, is this a known limitation?

The "search forum" is incredibly useful for beginners like me, I sure hope it start working again!

Yeah, I went to the Gear and rigging forum, did a search on "sewing", and turned up nothing.

Then I did a search on my username, and found the thread I started dealing with sewing machines.

Something fishy, methinks...

Yup - there's a problem here. It seems like the search is skipping any posts that were made in the old forums and migrated to this one. I've got someone looking into it.

Ok - I've re-indexed the database. It takes more than 14 hrs to index this database and the process kept on falling over or timing out but I managed to run it through now!
All the posts made to the old forums should now be indexed as well. Give it a try.

Hehehe! I did a search for "Dyeing jumpsuit report" and it turned up your thread and your post where you say you cannot find the thread called "Dyeing jumpsuit report". I bet if you search now for "Dyeing jumpsuit report" you'll get this post too! It's an vicious circle!
