Web site not responding

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it's just me but the last week or so almost 50% of the time that I try to go from the main forum index to an individual forum, ie, general skydiving discussion, I end up with a time out and 'web site not responding' message.

Maybe it's my computer, but I wondered if anyone else had noticed this?

I have a dial-up connection.
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

I've had it a few times over the last week or so...

Close the browser, wait a few minutes and come back - it generally works for me.

Edit: The main forums page, home page, gear page all work fine for me... it's just the jump to individual forums.

Would everyone that's having the problem please do a trace route to see where the connection is lagging at.

Then its not a game of "gee, I wonder if its the site or my computer" you know exactly where everything lags and proper steps can be taken to aleviate the problem.

For most windows based computers:

Open a command prompt.

Type "tracert www.dropzone.com"

Watch the screen. Copy and post the information if you like and we can look at it for you.

Use your mouse and highlight all you want copied, let up on the left button and simply click with the right button. It'll put it in the clipboard for pasting.

You're right, I want to see where the slowdown is occuring, especially since myself and others haven't had any problems at all.

Well a big TY to AD for helping me figure out how to copy from the cmd prompt via PM...he also noted a trouble area from my trace even though I am not experiancing any problems at present...

"That's where it starts. From there it compounds since there will always be a slowdown the more hops you have, but having a drastic increase like that will screw things up."

So anyone else having this problem should do the trace and see if that same router comes into play as a trouble area...and post results here...maybe it can be resolved:)

Edited to add: I ***'ed out my IP...prob a good idea for anyone posting results of the trace;)

I've gotten a couple time outs, however it's usually just a one time thing.. I think it's gonna be kind of hard to catch a problem on traceroute when it just doesnt stick around.. Unless some of you are having constant problems? This was taken right after a timeout I earlier.. Looks like one miss @ hop #8, and for some reason the actual dz.com (hop 10) doesnt respond at all when i do it [:/]

If I was HH, I was take it up with the hosting company at this point since some of the first hops on their side of the either seem to be timing out.

See, its not DZ.com, its not the computers here, its not your computer, its a couple of the hops on the hosing company or their host.

I can see that you have resolved the problem, things are working normally again....
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

I haven't done crap. I was just trying to get people to post some sort of data to help HH locate the problem.

Possibly the backbone provider had a problem hop and they had to do something to fix it.

That sort of stuff happens all the time in the world of the Intar-web-thingy.:P

For me it lags so badly I can't navigate, always between 6:00 AM and 6:45 AM EST.

These pages are slow, but usually load: Home, Safety, Gear, News, Calendar.

These pages usually lag so badly that I get timed out or am unable to load them at all:

Forums, Classifieds, Photos, Email

It happens from home, both from my PC and my laptop (sharing a broadband connection. Nobody is on in my house that time of day but me. Other websites load fine: Google, Weather Channel, etc. - normal speed for my connection.

It also happened from my laptop using a free wireless connection from a hotel I stayed in last weekend (East Coast, same timeframe).

I will try Dave's trace route instructions, but I think something's up that time of day.

Similar situation here (Germany), daily between 12.10 to 12.35pm, no matter from which computer: at office during the week and at home the WE. I have same quick connections on all of them, at office + home; laptop too slows down at these times. Funny. :S
