I'm still a little freaked about the Mirage!

Recommended Posts

There was some talk last night at the pub about checking the cutaway handle on my mirage...that someone has burned in because of a problem with it? Can someone please explain a little further now that I don't have the beer in my system to make things that much harder to understand?(pay attention Kris cuz I'm gonna make you explain this to me again this weekend you know *smile*).
Thanks!!

cut away handle or reserve?
The only thing I've heard about cutaway handles is to make sure the cables aren't too short (but you check that with your pre-flight inspection, right?) but that wasn't specific to the Mirage.
Let me know what you find out...

Argh. I sent that via a private message instead of posting it cuz the last thing I want to do is start a big scare. It's not a service bulletin and there's no proof that anyone has died or been injured because of the ends on the cutaway housings. This is also not a reason not to buy a Mirage.
A friend of mine who used to work in container manufacturing noticed it and has been recommending to people that they replace the ends with the same type used on other rigs if they load their main heavy because there is a POSSIBILITY that the cable could suck through the hole and the sharp edges could cut into the cable and trap it there if the jumper should have a spinning mal. Note the use of the words "possibility" and "could." Again, there's no proof that anyone has died because of this.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that either. And I absolutely am not going to get rid of my beautiful baby (mirage) because of it. I will have it looked at and if something needs modified, have that done.
I very very much appreciate the tips I get on this forum, but as we all know, we need to check up on whatever we learn for ourselves. I am grateful to gain knowledge from the more experienced and hope you guys will continue to share what you know with me, and I'm sure everyone here knows it is well intended and just a passing along of things we've heard, just FYI in case.
Thanks again Skybytch!!

sorry about that Lisa and Pammi, I didnt know you didnt want that out there. I got a mirage too and dont think it'll be a problem as I only load my current canopy at 1.15.
I edited the post stating the potential problem.

FWIW folks, the G3 uses a mil-spec end and it's the best I've seen on any rig (have not taken a close look at the new Javelin). They are less prone to the pull through problem than other designs. Yes, that particular malfunction has happened, but I don't think it was on a Mirage. If you have any concerns, Bill Hallet will (I've found in my dealings with him) have an answer for you.
