precision 0 #1 October 12, 2001 Precision Aerodynamics, Inc. has been one of three contract manufacturers for Icarus Canopies, Inc., cutting and sewing parachutes to designer Paul 'Jyro' Martyn's specifications. Nobody from Icarus Canopies has been able to adequately explain to Precision or to either of the other two manufacturers how Icarus can declare that any specific serial numbered Crossfire canopy is either "affected" or "unaffected" by an unknown condition that results in a Crossfire's flight instability. It may be true that not all Icarus Crossfire canopies are affected, and we have certainly seen Crossfire canopies flown successfully in all flight modes, including turbulent conditions. However, we are not aware of any simple way to make the determination as to whether or not any specific canopy is affected until after it has already demonstrated in-flight instability. It is absurd for Icarus Canopies to expect that any drop zone operator or that any S&TA should be able to make a declaration of airworthiness regarding a condition that even the designer of the canopy cannot explain. Precision Aerodynamics' believes that all Icarus Crossfire canopies should be considered "affected" pending the designer's determination of an accurate and conclusive method to identify and cure the elements that create the anomaly. Jimbo 0 #3 October 12, 2001 Maybe it's me, but.. I've read this a couple of times and this really seems like Precision is taking a cheap shot at Icarus.Anyone? Is it just me?
freeflir29 0 #4 October 13, 2001 "taking a cheap shot at Icarus"Seems more like companies trying to dodge the law suit and "responsibility" bullet to me."The sky resembles a back lit canopy...with holes punched through it"- IncubusClay

If the original post is, indeed, from George Galloway or an honest representative of Precision, then I believe it it just a way of each manufacturer trying to limit the hit they take to sales.. Think about it - if it were to come out that Precision was producing canopies way out of tolerance, who would want to buy ANYTHING they make? By the same token - if it were to come out that Icarus had a serious design flaw in the Crossfire, who would want to buy anything THEY make? Each company is trying to protect their own interest......who is right? Only time will tell..Mike
RemiAndKaren 0 #6 October 14, 2001 Saw the same post on wreck. And George does have regular posts there (or at least had.. it had been a while since I noticed one)....Looks legit.. allthough I didnt find such a statement on Precision's site. Which leads me to a suggestion: George, if in deed this is Precision's official position, can you make that statement on your website, this way there will not be any guess as to the authenticity.RemiMuff
in2falling 0 #7 October 17, 2001 Kick them when their down George, and then steal their product line. Won't see me buying and Precision Aerodynamics anytime soon. Be really funny if it does turn out the Precision Aerodynamics was making these canopies out of tolerance.
precision 0 #8 October 17, 2001 Anonymous hit-and-run remarks are easy to make by unidentified and mis-informed individuals. Call me on the telephone and identify yourself, and I will be happy to explain the whole truth to you. I will not get dragged into a one-sided public discussion, however. Nice try, though.
