Talon combination

Recommended Posts

I have a Talon 2 that is sized at a T4. It houses a Sabre 135 Main and an Airforce 120 reserve. I would like to fit a 120 Stiletto to my T4 rig with modifications done to the closing loop, for firmer closing loop pressure. Can this be done safely without having to purchase a new T2 size rig? Any advice on this issue would be of great appreciation. Regards,Richard.

Your best bet would be to contact Rigging Innovations. According to the size charts I have, your rig would be very loose with the canopies you are suggesting. RI containers are designed to accommodate pack volumes within a given range for each pack tray size and as far as I know, they do not recommend using the closing loop to compensate for using canopies considerably outside of the suggested pack volumes. Because the loop is on the bottom flap, it can only be shortened so much. The next option would be to change the grommet location and that modification is best done with the manufacturers recommendation.

oops, the loop on my Voodoo from RI is on the bottom flap, on the Talon2 it is on a tab under the top flap.

An Airforce reserve. I assume you must be Australian. In that case, contact Greg or Karen Sitkowski (spelling?) at Parachutes Australia. They'll be able to answer you better than anyone. I was jumping my new Cobalt135 in my girlfriends Talon2 T5 for a while (she was pregnant and I was waiting on my new rig). It would have been fine for flat flying but I really had to do the closing loop up so tight the pin scored the gromets (not good and could lead to release problems) to make sure it was tight enough for freeflying. Plus, the main closing flap was a little loose without the correct size canopy in there. You have to try these things to find out but you may be in the same position with your 120 and T4. Personally, I got myself a new Talon3 T2 from Parachutes Australia. Lovely. There's no substiute for a perfect fit.
(BTW, a T1 would be the correct size container for a Stilleto 120)

Actually, if I'm remembering correctly (it's late, I'm at home and I don't have my container/canopy compatibility list handy), I think the T1 is too small for a 120 - either the T2 or T3 is built specific for a 120zp main (I don't remember which; I promise I'll look it up and correct this post when I get to work in the morning.. err... I mean in a few hours...)
pull and flare,

Unless there is a difference between the US configurations and the Australian configurations I think you'll find the T1 is the correct size for a 120 main. I've just been through all this buying my new container. I have a T2 which fits my 135 perfectly.
btw, how do you do the "in reply to" thing properly so the quote shows up configured right in your post?
