bridle cover

Recommended Posts

I have a Mirage M0/G1 and the bridle coverage is not as clever as the G3 model.
There is maybe 3/4 inch or so bridle left exposed before it enters the spandex BOC.
I was wondering is it possible/safe to have a rigger sew on a Javelin stlye bridle cover next to the spandex pouch eliminating the bridle exposure.
Has anyone seen this done, and if so is mirage ok with this mod, as getting tuck tab conversion to the riser covers was recommended (as mine are velcro), but mirage said no no.
Any help appreciated.

I have done that bridle cover update on several Javelins, Vectors and a 1985 vintage Mirage. It takes about an hour to sew.
As for adding tuck tabs to early Mirages .... I tried it on my 1985 vintage Mirage and the damn things keep slapping my ears. Next repack I am going to re-install the Velcro. Tuck tab design is a complex process and even the best designers rarely get it right on the first try.
For example, when I was working for Rigging Innovation, we started building Genera prototypes in 1986. At that time Rigging Innovations had more experience building tuck tabs than any other manufacturer. It took us 40 prototypes to perfect the Genera pattern set. We knew the basic dimensions of the main and reserve containers after the first half-dozen prototypes, but it took another 34 prototypes to perfect the main riser covers!

Rob,
This will not have any affect on the deployment and is quit safe. You’re only putting the handle of the PC just a little closer to the corner of your rig. The only thing that could give you a problem as with any BOC is sloppy insertion / packing of the PC into the pocket.
I recommend that after the PC is folded and you’re inserting it into the pocket, keep the PC as wide as possible and push it along with the handle deep into the spandex pocket. After doing so, carefully pull the handle back out to a low comfortable location to grab while patting on the PC against the pocket. This technique will give you a nice secure PC with the handle in the same place jump after jump.
Also jussi, Yes you guessed correct. Jeff
