crazymel 0 #1 April 23, 2002 Okay - so I have an Alti III with the standard mounting (the "elastic" ring and velcro.) But I used an Alti II before that with a velcro strap that fits over the palm of your hand and wrist. Does anybody know what I mean?? Where can I find something similar for my Alti III? indyz 1 #2 April 23, 2002 Could it possibly have been one of these?--Brian
crazymel 0 #3 April 23, 2002 As cool as those are - NO! It was just like the normal velcro strap, but it went over the palm of your hand, and then the wrist (okay - so, I sux at explaining!!!) Life is for the LIVING!!!!!
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 April 23, 2002 It's the 2 straps that hook between your thumb / hand, and closer to the wrist, making the alti sit on the back of your hand Mel is refering to. crazymel 0 #5 April 23, 2002 Now that we know what I'm talking about, any idea what they are called and where I can find one??Life is for the LIVING!!!!!
JDBoston 0 #6 April 23, 2002 Has anyone ordered from this guy? Is he legit? How's the quality? I know most of skydiving's a cottage industry anyway, but it never hurts to check... I think they look really cool.Joe
SkydiveMonkey 0 #7 April 23, 2002 Don't know how it'll look / feel when you wear gloves though When you participate in sporting events, its not whether you win or you're loose, its how drunk you get.

PhreeZone 20 #9 April 23, 2002 If you have access to a sewing machine and a seam ripper. Tear apart the seams that are holding the little plastic ring on then replace it with a Large tube stow. Much softer on the hand and it stretches to be more comfortible too. Restitch the seam and you are good to go. The tube stow on mine has over 300 jumps and its starting to crack now so I'll probally only get another 100 jumps out of it.Total cost less then $5 for heavy-duty thread, the tube stow and the pins to hold it while you sew it on.If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.... crazymel 0 #10 April 23, 2002 I checked out this site before, but that's not it either. I'll go down to our planeless dz next weekend and find out where they got their's. It is such a comfy fit! But the sewing idea with large tube stow sounds promising. Any other ideas before I start ripping the brand new Alti III apart??Life is for the LIVING!!!!! Spy38W 0 #11 April 23, 2002 I think you're looking for the mount on the Ro altimeter. It has something like a 2" band that goes around the wrist, and the same thing goes between your thumb and pointer finger and below your hand--Words I hate: Streamer, Horseshoe, Baglock... crazymel 0 #12 April 23, 2002 That is exactly what I'm looking for!!!! Is there something like that for the Alti III?Life is for the LIVING!!!!!
SkydiveMonkey 0 #13 April 23, 2002 That's exactly what I was trying to explain (but not very well !!) When you participate in sporting events, its not whether you win or you're loose, its how drunk you get.
riggerrob 643 #14 April 23, 2002 Sounds like you are referring to the elastic Velcro straps installed on European-made Robnic or saphire (I can't remember which) altimeters. These are by far the most comfortable and practical altimeter straps. I had one on my Altimaster 3 until it wore out. A smart entrepreneur would find a source for elastic Velcro on this side of the Atlantic and sell them to Americans. Hint, hint! The alternative is to to make an elastic strap with little buckles, like we have on our student altimeters.
crazymel 0 #15 April 23, 2002 Where did you get your one?????? Did you just use the European mounting, and did it "fit" okay on the alti 3?? Life is for the LIVING!!!!!
Spy38W 0 #16 April 23, 2002 Quote That is exactly what I'm looking for!!!! Is there something like that for the Alti III? I tried searching for Robnyk, but could find a website for them, or any dealers who sold the strap.I'm guessing you could get the wristmount at the top of this page:http:// http://www.alti-2.com/alti-mounts.htm and have a rigger (or whoever) sew a loop of stretch material inside of the wrist mount strap, thats fairly similar to how the Sapphire mount is--Words I hate: Streamer, Horseshoe, Baglock... TEB6363 0 #17 April 23, 2002 Rob,Yep, it was the Saphire. A friend of mine was jumping one for a while. It did have the elastic that went across the palm of your hand.I don't know if you can get the mount separate, or if the Saphire is still available. I'll go look at SquareOne (to keep Lisa happy). However, I think he picked his up at ActionAir in Davis.:::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn! TEB6363 0 #18 April 23, 2002 Well, the Sapphire now comes with a Velcro "hand mount".It looks like they took the comfortable elastic and replaced it with velcro. It is made in Australia:::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!
crazymel 0 #19 April 23, 2002 Thanx guys!!! I really appreciate all your input!! Anybody who feels like making money - I'll order one if you patent this "strappy-thing"...heheheLife is for the LIVING!!!!!
skydiverek 63 #20 April 23, 2002 Robnyk Saffire altimeter and the comfy wrist strap you are all talking about ie here: http://www.gear-store.com/product.php4?Category=Skydiving&product=45I know Square 1 sells these altimiters too, but I do not know if the sell them with this compy mount.
TEB6363 0 #21 April 23, 2002 Yes, that's the mount. SquareOne says the mount is velcro, so the elastic one mentioned in your link looks like the right one. Now, can you get one without the altimeter??:::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!
Motab 0 #22 April 25, 2002 Alright, stupid "i'm a newbie and i haven't spent enough time looking at equipment close-up" question: Being left-handed, i tend to wear my watch on my right hand. Can you change the mount for these things to wear the altimeter on the right hand too? I'd think it's possible, but every altimeter i ever see is on someone's left hand... I'm not not licking toads....
indyz 1 #23 April 25, 2002 Yep. With an Alti-III the mount is held on by a plate screwed to the back of the altimeter. Just unscrew it, flip the mount around, screw it back on and you are all set.I've never seen the altimeter on the right hand though. Maybe because the right hand is used to pull?--Brian
Motab 0 #24 April 25, 2002 Oh yeah, good call... I hadn't thought about that. Mounting it there might create a potential pilot chute snag point? Oh well, I learned how to throw myself out of a perfectly good airplane... i'm sure I can manage to look at my other arm. But it's still just another way they're keeping lefty down... :(I'm not not licking toads....
FallRate 0 #25 April 25, 2002 You can have your rig converted, or a new rig made if you don't already have one, for left hand deployment. A great excuse to keep people from jumping your rig. :) 'Course it means you really shouldn't jump anyone else's rig either. A friend of mine switched his over after he broke his hand (or wrist?) and decided to keep it that way after he healed-up, seeing as he's a lefty anyway.FallRate
