small 3 ring to regular 3 ring?

Recommended Posts

I know you can have type 8's built with small rings on them. I've never seen type 17's with large rings, but I'm failing to see where its impossible to do it. This is a great question to ask 3 Ring inc.

I have never seen the standard rings on mini risers, but I also don't see why it wouldn't work. Its sort of pointless, but it should work. In all reality, from this forum...it would be most viable to just use the mini rings and mini risers on a large harness ring.

Cheers,
Travis

Wait a second, are you saying mini-risers(type 17) can be built with large rings on them like are used with type 8 risers?

According to Bill Booth, they can :)
"...Big rings on type 17 risers is such a rare request, that sometimes we just have to say no...even though there is nothing wrong with such an design."

Maybe I was not clear in my post saying you couldn't have risers in that configuration. I didn't mean it would not be safe or mechanically correct, I only meant that nobody builds and sells risers in that configuration. Technically, it would be a stronger type-17 riser with the large ring on the end than with a small ring.

Hi Hobbes,

perhaps something to consider is the Mini-Force™ system provided by Aerodyne as a solution to what you are requesting. This gives the leverage effect of a large ring, yet is still comparable in size to the smaller rings.

A thesis/study conducted by a German Rigger (Jürgen Sennert of Rainbow suits) definitly shows a huge reduction in pull forces and puts the mini-force™ at only a fraction above the large 3 ring set up.

Kind regards
