Pro- wolmari- or Psycho pack it?

Recommended Posts

So my problem in packing is that I have a 150 body for a 170 Spectre, so it don`t look so nice when it´s in the body, that body feels just to small.
I´am pro packing it and that´s not the right way,got some bad line twist couple of times.Yes I can buy a bigger body but that don`t fit in my container!
Anyone any info of how to get a clean packjob for a Spectre.Pro. wolmari- or Psycho?

Ok!I have to try that out, the pictures are for a 7 cell so it´s good for my Spectre, looks kind of crazy but I try it out.Never saw anyone in our club packing it this way, so there is no help around.
Got any more info of how to pack it the psycho way?
It would´t help a lot!!

It's really easy to do, mail part is to keep the lines tidy and make your you remember which way you put the line twist in so you can take it out. You might want to consider getting a 6 inch bridle extension put on the canopy to make it easier to get the bag on and reduce wear slightly on the top skin if you want to keep psycho packing.

I learned to psycho-pack from the directions shown on the inter-net. It starts out just like a pro-pack until you lay it on the ground. I don't know about using this on a Spectre because the openings may be too slow, but I love it on my Hornet. Steve1

Dude! Once upon a time, in the land of thousand lakes there were a couple of guys that wanted to pack a bit faster. So they "studied" the arts of psycho packing. Things wen't well until one of them had a malfunction and had to cut away. They all said that shit happens. The sun came up the next day and the same guy had an another cut away. Bad luck they said. On the next day a different guy had the same dilemma and now they were a little suspicious about their packing. They checked the procedures of psycho packing and decided to give it another try. All wen't well until... well you know it: cut away. All in all the group had about 6 cut aways in two weeks so they kinda wanted to go back to the pro and wolmari. Now they pack faster than psycho...and a lot less cut aways.
I've heard that some people pack psycho without problems but the experience i've had the pleasure of observing has made me stick to wolmari.

I've psycho packed a few times. Last time I did I had the slam bangin' hardest opening ever. I saw stars and my thighs were purple/black/and green for a week. Had my main inspected because I was afraid it got damaged, it opened that hard. Actually the inserts for my cutaway cable were ripped off the risers from the opening shock.

Only thing I can think of is that the slider got pushed down the lines while rolling the canopy.

I've psychoed most of my almost 170 jumps....with out a single issue....one thing about a psycho you have to do it make sure the tail is TIGHT around the lines..this make's sure the slider doesn't come down at all...and induce a BANG opening....

I have psycho-packed for 95% of all of my jumps. I've used it on my old Sabre, Heatwave and I use it on my Stiletto with no problems.

I can get my canopy in the bag very fast. My Stiletto was brand new when I bought it and even with the Slippery ZP material I can do an entire pack job in 7-10 minutes. My opening are soft and within 5-10 degrees of on-heading every time.

I have tried the Wolmari pack a few times but for me, it just wasn't as fast as Psycho packing but the opening were just as nice.

If you do decide to Psycho pack it will take you a bit to get used to laying the canopy on the ground upside down without disturbing anything.

You will also need a 7" to 10" bridle extension between the d-bag and canopy to hel keep the pilot chute from becoming un-cocked and to relieve stress on the bridle-attachment point on the canopy.

If someone is having excessive cutaways Psycho packing then they are either not removing the induced half line twist by putting the D-bag on upside down, then rotating it; or they are not being very careful with laying the canopy on the ground after flaking it and before squeezing the air, folding in thirds, and rolling it up.

It's nice that the Wolmari pack works for you, but don't blame the problems you've seen on the Psycho pack. I've packed my canopy more than a few times using the Psycho pack and it opens beautifully every single time. There is probably a relationship between the cutaways you mention and an _incorrect_ Psycho pack, but done correctly the Psycho pack will produce openings as nice as the PRO or Wolmari methods.

been jumping spectre for 40 jumps, wolmari is the best, fast and soft openings (the tip of the end cells take some time to open but its kinda normal on slow opening canopies or so I heard). Psycho I have no idea. Make sure you stow your lines in a good symetrical way, that way you can reduce the line twist, and also open with a good body position.

I put from 7 to 9 rolls on the tail, depending on how much snivel I want.

All right!!I try it packing the psycho way, wooww.no way for me, I just can`t get it right, it is still full of air and I can not get in the bag, no way.I try`t out the wolmari, that feels nice and clean and it´s not so radical from propacking then psycho.I think I stick for the pro or wolmari. If I really can´t stand it no more packing it in to the small bag I just buy a smaller canopy. Thanks for your comments :)

I had the same problem trying to psycho bag a brand new Xaos into a too small bag. What I did was after putting it on the ground, pull the flaps over, lay on it with my head facing the lines, feet towards PC, get as much air out as possible, then fold the ears in, lay on it again, and then roll. It takes practice, but is nice when you get it

I've got about 50 jumps on my Spectre, I do a modified sort of Wolmari - I roll the stabilzers just a little before I wrap the tail, and I just give the tail 2-3 rolls at most- Then when it's on the floor I only roll the sides under once instead of twice. It goes in bag nicely and I get the best openings I could ask for, with only one really long snivel- Spectres are very forgiving of sloppy pack jobs anyway- See what works best for you! I have tried Psycho on mine and didn't feel comfortable with the opening- Got some nasty line twist, which could have easily been my body posistion, too- But that's just me---
