cyberskydive 0 #1 September 6, 2002 Kinda out of the loop on the gear goin ons these days, and I'm not at the dz everyday anymore to ask.... I have a saphire(1) with all Vectran, only about 200 jumps and the lines look fine. What are the new Safire 2's coming with these days? Are they re-lining older safires with spectra now? Just the control lines?? What would you recommend? Also, last time I packed my rig I noticed about 6 inches of stitching, about half way down the stitch, cant remember if it was between cells or mid cell, on one of the cells next to the center cell, was gone-lol, so my stitch looks like: -------------~ <=>six inches<=> ~------------------- I dont remember what the load bearing cells are-lol what are they? -lmfao I decided just to keep an eye on it for a few jumps, but it's on the top skin so if it rips or something I wont be able to see it under canopy, and to be honest I really dont know how this stitch is going to behave... what do you guys think?-System.Windows.IUnknown.Crash.Reboot.Crash.Reboot.Freeze.Crash.Reboot.Break.Stuff.dot... PhreeZone 20 #2 September 6, 2002 If the stitching is gone, I'd have a rigger look at it. It could rapidly go from 6 inches to the entire length of the cell. You might not notice it till you go to flare and the entire canopy buckles on you. As for the lines, talk to HooknSwoop. He helped in the development of the trim on the Safire2 and you might get some good answers out of him.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

I personally like Vectran because at the end of it's (the line set) life span, the canopy is still in trim. The load bearing ribs are the ribs w/ the line attachment points. Have a rigger replace the missing stitching. It will only get worse. Hook

The biggest argument I've heard against Vectran lately is that it tends to just snap at the worst time, without showing signs of wear. Well, Vectran _does_ show wear, you just need to know what to look for. Ask around if you don't. Vectran, IMO, is a superior product to Spectra. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
