SkydiveMonkey 0 #1 October 9, 2002 Ok, been getting left turns a lot on my hornet on opening, usually 90 degree but sometimes more. I've also had the canopy open on heading then DIVE to the left and plane out. SOund like packing or body position to you? It's a 170 @ 1.2. I've switched to psycho packing, but haven't had a chance to see if it makes a difference yet.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
AggieDave 6 #2 October 9, 2002 Do you notice a pull to the left when flying the canopy, after the opening? Are you stuffing the nose or rolling the nose? In doing those things, you may be causing the canopy to inflate unevenly, causing the turn. It could very well be body position, too. Worst case, get a rigger to check the tirm of the canopy.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 October 9, 2002 FLies perfectly after opening. Don't do anything with the nose at all when packing. The trim shouldn't really be an issue as it's only done 30 maybe 40 jumps. I'll be checking it this weekend though.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
AggieDave 6 #4 October 9, 2002 Be mindful of your body postion. Are you grabbing the rear risers while opening?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
SkydiveMonkey 0 #5 October 9, 2002 Don't touch the risers until it's open. I'll maybe try leaning to the right to try an cancel out any position. See if teh psycho pack helps as well.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
ChileRelleno 0 #6 October 9, 2002 I had a few on my hornet when I first got it. After reviewing my packing, line trim and body position I found that I needed to improve my body position. Since then its on heading... ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868
bobsoutar 0 #7 October 10, 2002 Sounds like body position. Check your leg straps (are they exactly the same length when tightened), fix a heading on the ground during pull and deployment and try to maintain it keeping arms and legs spread wide until it's opened. After a while you will get to notice any difference in pressure on the leg straps and be able to control the openings a bit better with slight weight shifts. SkydiveMonkey 0 #8 October 10, 2002 I normally fix a point on the horizon as it's easier to look at when you get pulled upright I feel.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
bobsoutar 0 #9 October 10, 2002 Yes. The main thing that is likely to put you off heading is your weight distribution in the harness though. The other possibility is packing - if you have a partial twist below the slider it is most likely line stows (wrong bungees etc.), above the slider is most likely to be the way the nose is packed. A hop n pop (preferrably video'd from the aircraft) would give you more time to watch the opening sequence if packing is the problem. Still reckon it's body position though! lazerq3 0 #10 October 11, 2002 I got into a habit of pushing my risers out on deployment...not grabbing them , but jsut giving a little (key word "little") push to the outside to keep from any twisting, and ever since then I've had GREAT on heading openings!! jasonFreedom of speech includes volume
cloud9 0 #11 October 11, 2002 I was having the same type problem with my Hornet 150 loaded at about 1.33. What I found was body position. I have had a previous shoulder surgery and tend to dip my shoulder when reaching for the hackey. I have since gone to a Heatwave and this caused me a malfunction on that canopy. So whatever you do don't go to an elliptical canopy until you get this issue resolved.
nicknitro71 0 #12 October 11, 2002 Never had one on my 150. I always psycho packed it.Memento Audere Semper
Kirils 1 #13 October 13, 2002 Sounds you are dropping a hip on opening. The Hornet can be steered through the opening to prevent a turn. Look up and watch the opening. If there is a turn in one direction, shift in the harness in the opposite direction buy pressuring down on a hip. You will be suprised how well the technique works!"Slow down! You are too young to be moving that fast!" Old Man Crawfish
SkydiveMonkey 0 #14 October 13, 2002 yup - that's what I did this weekend. Left turns, pulled up the left leg and it stopped straight away. Think it's sorted now ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
