Skydiver40TN 0 #26 July 25, 2003 Anybody else get somewhat weak flares out of thier Saphire. I have a 149 and leaves a little to be desired in the area of landings. Otherwise I love it.
johnny1488 1 #27 July 25, 2003 There is a ton of posts on here about the safire flare. It is usually technique that messes people up. There is also a brake line mod that can increase the flare power. PM hooknswoop or skycat for info. I had a safire 209 for 300 jumps and I couldnt understand what people would complain about. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" lazyfrog 0 #28 July 31, 2003 I ordered my Saphire 2 139 (with custom colours) and Martin (Icarus Empuria Brava) told me it would be ready in 6 weeks. The Canopy was ready but... there was no Saphire logo on it. They ran out of stock and the guy who did the logo ceased activity... So he gave me the canopy without the logo (which looks much better...) Very happy with it. He also told me the vectran lines would last 600-800 jumps...---------- Fumer tue, péter pue ------------- ourson #10, Mosquito Uno, CBT
DF7ZS 0 #29 July 31, 2003 Hey Rhino ! I don't think it does matter how many post someone makes, it's just about the facts. Also good to see that people have good experiance with the company and some maybe not. 100 Jumps on it meanwhile and it fly's fu****g great ! skynole 0 #30 July 31, 2003 I am not here to bash Icarus...Just share MY experience with them. I ordered a Safire 149 awhile back, custom, and it came in when promised and no problems with the customer service. My gripe is more with the canopy itself. It had a very inconsistent flare. Sometimes it would land fine and other times it slam me and I was doing nothing different. At first I thought it was just me, but after jumping for over a year I knew something was up. Besides, a few other jumpers at my DZ had the same canopy and about half of us were having the same problem of inconsistent flares...and these jumpers had 1000+ jumps so I think they can figure out the flare. Anyway, I ended up selling the canopy and the guy who bought it called a couple weeks later after jumping it several times and asked what I did to this canopy because of it's inconsistency. I told him I didn't do anything but that I experienced the same problems. He ended up sending it back Icarus, who then told him that this canopy was manufactured incorrectly and they ended up doing a Safire2 mod for no charge. Never spoke to the guy since so I don't know if that fixed the problem. As you can imagine, I was kinda pissed off that I bought a brand new canopy, which I jumped for over a year, and it was made wrong from the factory!! Skydiver40TN - Maybe your canopy might have been made incorrectly like mine...so try contacting Icarus and see about getting that Safire2 mod done
freeflycracker 0 #31 July 31, 2003 I wouldve been pissed off too If I realized I couldve had the problem fixed with a simple phone call! After my xfire had the mod performed on it I wasnt as happy with some characteristics as I had been. I e-mailed Simon with my complaint. A day or two later he called and COMPLETELY rectified the matter. Icarus customer service rocks! I believe theyre still the only company with a 30 day guarantee. And I know more than one non Icarus jumper that wished the company they bought their canopies from had that option.
skymedic 0 #32 July 31, 2003 Did ya ever contact Icarus? you have no complaint if ya dont call them and talk to them. they have been nothing but good to me about my Safire issues. and I love my canopy now. My next canopy will be a Xfire2 and my GF's next canopy will probably end up being a Safire 2...if ya have a problem with them, ya gotta call them. this one is on your shoulders..NOT there's. it is impossible to manufacture a fabric wing and have it 100% perfect every single time. these things happen...Simon knows it..and he fixes it if ya let him know. Spizzzarko 0 #35 August 1, 2003 Icarus has always treated me very well. I ordered 2 FX 104's a year and a half ago. The both fly great. they took a little while to manufacture, but no big deal. I just ordered a VX-98 and it will be here in three weeks. I really have had great service with the company. Mr. Mundell has taken very good care of me. He even took time out of his day to call ME, form NZ to CO, and find out a little more about my needs and wants for the VX. I think Icarus is doing a lot of things to make their Customer service better, but it's pretty hard when you are traveling from New Zealand to the US, and Europe a lot to keep track of things. You can keep some of the people happy some of the time, and all of the people happy none of the time. PD has been around for awhile, Precision has been awhile for some time, Icarus is pretty much a new ddue in the business if you look at overall time of operating. Every busines has a few growing pains. Fact is, I like their products and am willing to make a few sacrifices for that. That's all I have to say about that. Jimbo 0 #36 August 1, 2003 QuoteHe even took time out of his day to call ME, form NZ Normally I tend to stay out of the "me too" posts, but I thought it was important since we're either praising or bashing one of the manufacturers. Anyhow, I bought a Crossfire2 a while back and there was some confusion on the order, Simon called me personally (from NZ if that matters) to take care of things. He didn't have to, it said a lot to me that he did. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
freeflycracker 0 #37 August 1, 2003 Yore right Marc. I kinda like it that way. It cracks me up. Some people will only buy a Ford no matter how good a Honda is. Oh well to each his own
