AggieDave 6 #51 November 12, 2007 I jumped a XF2 at that wingloading and personally I didn't like it. After having jumped other XF2s including the 149 I had for two years I felt like the canopy just didn't perform anymore. It was fast, but the canopy just didn't have the ability to swoop like it did at a slightly lower wingloading. I personally believe that 1.9 is about the limit for the XF2. In my experience the Katana is similar, at 2.1 it just didn't swoop well anymore but at 1.9 it was an animal. If you like how Crossfires fly, demo a VX, if you're ready for it. Its a logical progression. Demo the XF2 you're looking at too, see if you like the higher wingloading. Demo a Katana as well. I'm a big fan of demoing everything that is appropriate for your skill level.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." swaika 0 #52 November 13, 2007 i am more interested about the lift at this WL has it got enough lift at the end of the swoop to land you on the ground without falling on your knees after touching the grass during NO wind landing?
dharma1976 0 #53 November 13, 2007 I have flown crossfires 129 119 and 109 I have yet to try the 99 which would put me at 2.1 the 109 was an animal and was a cunthair above 1.9 and a lot of fun I might even get another one to have as my spring canopy... http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. AggieDave 6 #54 November 13, 2007 Sure, that wasn't a problem it stood up fine. When the new kid at the DZ with a Sabre2 loaded at 1.7 hits the gates and blows by you by 50ft, it might be embarrassing. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." YISkyDive 0 #55 November 15, 2007 I have 300 jumps on a XF2 @ 1.6 and and another 300 or so on a XF2 @ 1.8. I liked them very much for canopies to learn the basics of swooping on. I also jumped a Xfire at 2.1 and I did not like it at all. Its flair was way to short and it was ground hungry as a beast, and nil' wind landings were not the best. I would not recommend taking it that high, personally. Cross bracing has many benefits at that loading.
HCnorway 0 #56 November 15, 2007 Quote1.85 is the ABSOLUTE sweetspot on that canopy.. Rhino I must agree. After a lot of testing I found 1.85 to be perfect on the Crossfire2.

What do you think about 1.9 - 1.95 on this canopy (on 120 sh)? Would it (on your opinion) more "sweet" than ~1.75-1.8 on 130?Why drink and drive, if you can smoke and fly? AUSkyguy 0 #58 November 15, 2007 I jump a Crossfire loaded at 1.7 and think it is an excellent canopy, Beautiful openings, long surf, and very powerful flare... I have also found that you can still do a braked approach and landing in an abort situation and it still maintains a good flare even though its a 1.7 loaded 99... I don't know about loading it any higher though... I would like to know what you guys think also because I am debating whether or not my next canopy will be another Crossfire or not.. In general, you can go for a slightly higher wing loading on a larger canopy size as you won't have the same trouble with lift. Besides, Icarus recommended to me 1.8-2.0 as ideal, so you shouldn't worry about it. -- BASE #1182 Muff #3573 PFI #52; UK WSI #

Bigger crossfire canopies I do not have much experience with, so I don't know the exact sweet spot here.
AggieDave 6 #61 November 16, 2007 My experience with the XF2 are with the 169, 149 and 139. I loaded at 1.7, 1.9 and 2.1 respectively.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
johnny1488 1 #62 November 19, 2007 I have a bunch of jumps on a 119 loaded at 2.0 and I loved it. At first I thought it was a bit too small, but it just takes a bit longer to find the sweet spot. I jumped a 109 loaded a bit over 2.1 and it was too small. The ideal wingloading for performance is between 1.8 and 2.0. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!"
