rhino 0 #26 July 24, 2003 Quote I'm all for homeopathic remedies, but I doubt very much that a few sessions of smiling in the mirror would've stopped my cousin from hanging himself. I worry very much that someone in a similar position to him might see these suggestions and decide, no - he doesn't need profesional help. he'll just smile in the mirror a few times, and that'll fix everything. I worry he'll do this, and he too will end up hanging from the ceiling in his college dorm. I don't believe so.. One of the things I like about the faster canopy is the speed at which it responds to input. More speed and quicker response time = more maneuverability = more options to save your ass. RichM 0 #27 July 24, 2003 With snap riser turns I would support your argument, but I use carving approaches so I can continually reassess the dive and adjust it. For this reason I prefer canopies with a long dive as they allow greater flexibility to adjust the dive so that I can bring the canopy to a comfortable plane at ground level.Rich M

An example, being someone who attempts a big fat carve on their Velocity, Vengeance, Crossfire 2, Xaos-21, etc at 300 feet and doesn't the ability or experience to make any correction until 25 feet up or so. It's something I see happening way too often."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
mags 0 #29 July 24, 2003 Man I wish I had the time to discuss minutia like you guys do.... I'm no pro, but it is sort of comical to see people with less jumps than manufacturers recommend for certain canopies giving folks advice about HP canopy flight like they are JC or Heath.... I'm not pointing fingers, on the contrary....keep it up, i think its funny...... and yes, I know jump numbers are not an accurate measurement of capacity...... A lot of people in here aren't Heath or JC, but are flying the same canopies. I'm just saying that that's a bad mix."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
Canuck 0 #34 July 24, 2003 Yeahhhh baby....I'm with you all the way on this one! What's even funnier is someone playing the role of canopy nazi that if I'm not mistaken has about 300 jumps and is talking about downsizing from a Saber 150 to a Vengeance 107! I guess we will never know though, because said person's numbers and gear have been conveniently wiped clear of his user profile. Canuck
mags 0 #35 July 24, 2003 Right on man, the post was really not in response to your post, but I just don't use this page much and i just used the reply function to the most recent post... I agree with you totally.......Perhaps my most significant pet peeve in this sport are the people who don't have the proper judgement or natural self preservation instincts or quite simply the brains to take it easy on canopy progression... i will crawl back in my hole now..... For others, if you want advice in this forum, Chuck is solid.......lots of jumps, on just about every canopy, and probably in most conditions..... have fun with the minutia! I have about 600 jumps and am moving from a Sabre 120 to a Sabre2 107, which I'd load between 1.6 and 1.7."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
