futurehighflyer 0 #1 September 22, 2003 I was just wondering......i wanna be a freeflyer(when i grow up) and was just thinkin..........is a smaller container better for freeflying? Cuz, when i buy my own gear i want a smaller container and not a big bulky one with a big canopy after student status. So, would it be a good idea to wait before buying gear right after student status, so i could down size in conopy size and get a smaller container. Or do you think that it would take to long to downsize enough to get a smaller canopy for a smaller container. Another thing, im 16 , obsessed with skydiving and havent even jumped yet so ya.......i have no experiance what soever. .........unless you count a 10ft. base jump off my roof when i was 6 or so.. but i have been reading everything and anything i could get my hands on, and searching posts about everything that i didnt understand. And i know that i wont understand things fully untell i actually jump and do aff and learn about the equipment in person with an instructor ......so ya...... sorry if i seem like a idiot who thinks he knows what hes talking aboutim just obsessed with skydiving and think that you are the luckiest people in the world . ( been saving money since 9th grade to be able to get through a tandem and aff)so ya.................thanks for anything.
andy2 0 #2 September 22, 2003 go jump, nuff said. a few more words: You can worry about equipment later once you've gotten through AFF. If your parents won't let you jump go out to the local dropzone and hang out and talk to people. I bet people will be friendly to you once they figure out how much you want to skydive, I know I'd be happy to talk to someone who wants but can't yet skydive. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... billvon 2,991 #3 September 22, 2003 >is a smaller container better for freeflying? Not really. Choose your main and reserve size _first_ based on your skills, then choose a container that will fit them well. Most people go with used gear for their first rig, since it's cheaper and you won't have it long - you'll usually downsize before long.
Blahr 0 #4 September 22, 2003 Quote......so ya...... Its probably a bit soon to be sweating equipment choices. Keep saving your money, get parental consent, and start jumping. The rest will come in time OK. I'm probably going to regret asking this...but...what does "so ya" mean?

dgskydive 0 #6 September 22, 2003 is a smaller container better for freeflying? ------------------------------------------------------------ Don't even start to think about container size yet! For you bigger will be better for a long time. Please don't get obsessed with the whole small container thing. You will have plenty of time to make smart informed choices later on. For now just worry about learning to fall stable and learning to pull and land the big beautiful canopy they will give you. Take your time and make staying safe and being in the sport a long time your first priority. Get whatever container fits the canopies you are qualified to jump. The smallest container in the world will not help you do the most important thing......... survive! That being said, I welcome you to our sport and wish you the best of luck!
