nitron and Xfire

XF1 or XF2? I've jumped a nitron and a XF2, I'd say I like the XF2 better, if for no other reason than the opening. The XF2 119 I jumped seemed a lot like my stiletto 120 in toggles, riser pressure didn't build as fast, and it was a lot easier to keep in a dive. The nitron 135 I jumped had real light toggle pressure, moderate riser pressure, and more dive than the stiletto, but probably less than the XF2. If I was in the market for one, I'd go for the XF2. Sorry I couldn't help more.

I will have a Nitron 170 for a month, and we are getting a XF2 as well. I will let you know what I think about both of them. Chris and I also jumped a Comp. Cobalt this weekend. It seemed to have some poor openings. I only got one and Chris got no good openings. It turned slowish, dove very well, had good riser pressure, and had a lot of bottom end flare. The openings were a huge dissapointment. I will let you know more in the next couple of weeks.

I have jumped both canopies. And ended up purchasing the Xfire 2. I have found it to be an incredible canopy. I did not mind the Nitron but felt it to be exactly like the Stiletto. The openings were nice but very brisk and always off heading (though more than likely this was a body position problem). pretty nice swoop and recovery but nothing that would compare to the Xfire 2.
All in all I think it's up to the individual...

I have never jumped the Nitron and am not all that experienced. But I've made about 36 jumps on my new Crossfire2 in the last three weekends and I absolutely love this canopy. I am only starting to learn it's potential, but it swoops like a monster with fabulous lift capabilities (if the terrain is decent, I can surf my feet at the end of my swoop and very rarely need to run it out as I wait for the canopy to shut down and lose it's lift). Also, I have yet to hear from anyone who's flown a Crossfire2 who didn't like it. In fact I let another guy who's ordered a very similar sized Crossfire2 canopy demo mine yesterday and he just had nothing but one big smile on his face after he landed it (with a nice swoop) yesterday.

If the Nitron is the same than the Nitro from HiPer-Canopies then I've jumped both at a 1.8 wingload.
Totally different canopies. I liked the XF a lot more because it has a longer natural recovery arch and you can keep it in the dive with risers for a long time. The Nitro really wants to come out of the dive and I couldn't go for a nice smooth 270 just because riser pressure build up so much. I felt I had to make low, snapping turns to avoid the riser pressure (and that was with the 88). With the XF on the other side I could start a 270 at 800 ft very smoothly and make it dive more and more, always controlling it with risers. Openings on the XF are a cake also. Did wingsuit-flying (with a s3) as well as camera with it. I might be buying one. Actually the only reason I didn't till now is that I want to try a Velo some more, but I just can't get a demo (here in germany).
I didn't make as many jumps on the Nitro, but I think it has a better glide in brakes. This is surely true for the Blade, the new HiPer canopy. The low speed flight is what impressed me most about those canopies, but then again I'm more into canopies that can DIVE.
Side note to GeeeeeeFly: I think the XF flies a lot more like a stiletto than the Nitro does. The XF has nicer openings and longer dives than the Stiletto, but in the end is quite similar while the Nitro is a very different canopy. Very different design also.

It wasnt so much that we had line twists as much as the opening just smacking the shit out of us. My one good opening, I got the 2 stage deployment that Atair describes and I used harness input to steer the opening.....the others were insta-canopy. I'm curious to know if body position could cause the speedy inflation rate.

in my limited experience with the Cobalt i had, packing and split rolling the nose and rolling the tail tight helped with the "smack openings" i have since bought a HeatWave and have been having a blast with it. the Cobalt definitely has some issues. i was just kidding you guys earlier about body positioning, because when i called and complained that was the "standard excuse" they gave me for the unpredictable openings.....*cough* BS! ;)
