hookitt 1 #1 December 18, 2003 This is in response to the Packing tips thread. I said >>>I'll go out this weekend and roll just one side and let you know how it goes. Some one remind me to post about it. <<< So I did. Canopy: 27 cell Xaos 78 Wingload: about 2.3 to 1 Standard propack but rolled the heck out of the left side of the nose. I rolled it until the A lines met up with the B lines. It opened softly and on heading 2 times in a row. Obligatory Disclaimer: Don't pack that way. It was a experiment done in a controlled environment with specialized equipment . (Ok.. I lied about the controlled environment and specialized equipment... it just sounded good)My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... skynole 0 #2 December 18, 2003 Thanks hookitt. I was definitely wanting to know the results, but forgot to remind you! I have kept rolling my nose - half and half - and had nothing but great results. If anyone has had bad experiences rolling the nose of a Xbraced, please share.

AggieDave 6 #4 December 18, 2003 Quote On the packing instructions for the Velocity PD claims that rolling the nose into itself is the proper technique for the Velocitys.... Got a link? Last new Volocity I saw came with the same "ram air" manual that has been sent out since Christ was a mess cook.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." volo 0 #5 December 18, 2003 What's up CHRIS N. & BRIAN Mc.?!?! Good to see ya on this thread! I've been jumping my Xaos21 as much as I can lately and it's been treating me well. I love it! As for the nose rolling, I haven't tried it. My openings on my Xaos have been great so far. I finally got that mess straightened out with the sudden spins. Definitely the risers! Hope to see you kids soon!! Jason J.
ccowden 0 #6 December 18, 2003 Why would you roll the nose on one? Are you getting hard openings? The openings on my Velocity are about as soft as it gets without an excessive snivel.
cheneyneel 0 #7 December 18, 2003 Aggie Dave, I recieved this booklet about the same size as that ram air booklet.. This booklet was basic education of the Velocity.. It went through a whole spill about flight characteristics and everything to packing.. I think that the same info is on the PD website... Cowden, I have been rolling the nose because a friend of mine at my DZ recieved a new Velocity and it was spanking his ass with in his first 200 jumps on it.. But my openings have been great so for as well....
hookitt 1 #8 December 18, 2003 Actually my parachute opens quite nicely ... Read the tread I linked to in my first post. Packing tips It was just an experiment. I rolled one side nice and tight and left the other side hangin wide open. It opened on heading and smoothly rather than catching air only on one side and spinning up. Fun and games... Don't try this at home.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 December 19, 2003 Well, it's like I said in the original thread: I have never had a bad/spinny opening on either of my Velocities, my old VX-74, or any loaner crossbrace I have ever jumped and I pretty much always put a roll in the nose. I get similarly good openings leaving the nose straight as well.

cheneyneel 0 #11 December 19, 2003 Hookitt Yea to be honest I mainly just roll the nose to keep the canopy under control .. I have been jumping a really picky canopy before I got my velocity so with my previous canopy and now my velocity I am making sure the canopy is symetrical on both sides and slid into the bag evenly I have yet to have anything but a great opening.. I mean that they are made to open nicely but when you pack them out of wack then you get wacked (at least my experience) ..SO just rolling the nose is just being cautious until the canopy can be controlled while packing the slippery f*#ker.. skynole 0 #12 December 19, 2003 Rolling the nose half and half and making sure the slider is nicely quartered and out in front of the nose has made the openings just that much better...helping spare my aching neck!
twnsnd 1 #13 December 19, 2003 No, but I have had bad experiences rolling the tail. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-
jumperconway 0 #14 December 21, 2003 OK so I had a wonkey opening! Today, I Rolled all the outer cells on my 27 really tight and stuffed it inside leaving about 2" of slider in front of the nose and the openings were awsome! Nuff said, apperently I was wrong. I specified TIGHT rolls this time and they opened great! Last time I was doing this, I was lackadaisical about rolling the sides in. My bad!
