Which container do you prefer?

All of them I would think, but if you are jumping that much you are going to want a good rig that is going to hold up and be comfortable and safe. I am sure they could go to any manufacturer and have a good chance at getting them highly discounted or free, but they stick with Sunpath. Even PD Blue went from RWS to Sunpath before the seperation.

PD Blue went to Sunpath because RWS decided they weren't going to sponsor teams anymore. It's all about the money, the old addage "if it's free it's for me" applies, throw in some sponsorship $$ and there you have it. The Javelin is not the best rig on the market, best at marketing, yes, but not the best. it works, so do many others, it then boils down to personal preferrence.

Comfort is subjective. Where the reserve risers lay in the reserve tray, type of reserve links, harness size and rings, the size of container and canopies can all affect how comfortable a container is to someone. Get 5 different containers and five different people to try them on and vote for the most comfortable. Chances are it would not be unanimous.

Appearance is subjective. What may be an attractive container to one may be ugly to another.

What is not subjective is main and reserve pin protection, riser protection, ease of reserve packing, low maintenance designs (lack of velcro to be constantly replaced), and ease of main packing.

Often what drives a container purchase is what brand the DZ is a dealer of and what container the buyers friends jump. If no one on the DZ jumps a particular container, it is not likely that a new jumper will purchase an "unkown". Most up-jumpers will recommend whatever container is on their back as being the "best". No one wants to say their gear isn't the best available.

I have owned a Talon2, 2 Javelins and a Micron, for my money, the Mirage is the top of the heap, and I don't even own one…….yet.

Does anyone use Atom containers? what do you think of them?

I do. As do many Europeans.
Atoms however are manufactured by PdF, who seem to have a problem with exporting their product to the US.
It's a fine rig, as is the, also French, Advance. Both have excellent bridle and (main and reserve) pin protection and are very nice stylish rigs. I actually prefer the Advance (though I jump an Atom myself because I could get one for a price I was willing to pay), hip rings and a main flap that folds and tucks in upward.
Great feature on my Atom: window in the reserve flap that allows for checking the pin without opening the flap.
Only rig I wouldn't buy is an Invader because of the riser covers, choice between the rest mostly comes down to personal preference and where you can convince yourself to hit the price/performance curve.
I do not, however, have all that much first hand experience with American rigs. Caveat emptor.
Johan.
I am. I think.

A friend at the dz has one (i think its atom) and sure looks good small, freefly all the way, great riser protection, great padding, great velcroless toggles, only problem is that the store is in france so its a no good since panamenians think that skydivers are loaded with money (something that we all know is not true) they charge to much to let it pass custom.:(

I have been blessed by god and my dad and have the oportunity to buy a new container, so now am in the quest of finding "the one" (it will have to last me for a lot of jumps and downsizes).

here's the Q: Which container do you prefer and why? am looking for comfort, security, beauty and friendly for all the skydiving disciplines (you can exclude wingsuit).

right now am looking at the odyssey cause a friend told me that its the most comfortable of all, cause it has chest rings, hip rings, the cut-in backpad, etc. Can your choice beat this? if yes, how?

I don't have the oportunity to demo so I will trust your answers and base my buy in what I read from you people.

Ahh... the never ending question as to which rig is best...

Bummer that you don't have the chance to jump a few different ones Drenaline.

Personally, I'd say there aren't any "bad" rigs out there these days. It pretty much comes down to a matter of style and cost... i.e. which rig you think looks good when you pick the colors, patterns, etc. you want if you're custom ordering and then cost... eee-gads!... all new containers are getting expensive these days, but some are less expensive then others so that may be a factor to you, but even if you buy one of the more economical containers, all of them are just fine. Some riggers will tell you that this rig is easier to pack then that rig when it comes to reserves... this is true to an extent, but they're all similar... so unless you're planning on getting a rigger's ticket anytime soon, that may or may not be a factor in your decision... of course, from a piece of mind standpoint, you may want to pick a rig your local rigger is comfortable with... i.e. some riggers run in fear when they see a Reflex or Racer come through the door, while others don't.

Personally, I jump a Talon 2 circa 1995 with a post-production BOC mod. Why? Well, I bought it in 95 when I had a Vector 2-2 stolen earlier that year. I'd have bought another Vector at the time, but at that time Relative Workshop was up to a 50+ week deliever time! :o No shit! Anyway, I've been happen with the Talon 2 ever since and am considering buying another Talon, but I see now that R.I. has come out with a Talon 3. [:/]

Anyway, if you're into freeflying, make sure you consider pilot chute and riser protection a lot as one of your decission factors.

Anyway, happy rig buying! Getting your first new custom rig is the BEST! ... oh yeah... BEER !!!!!

Yes, Parachutes de France does build some pretty nice Atom harness/containers. I have packed several different vintages of Atoms and have been pleasantly surprised by how even the tightest versions closed gracefully.
The reason that P de F gear is rare in the USA is that in the early 1990s P de F decided that they wanted nothing to do with ugly, replusive, low-life, scum-sucking, bottom feeding, ambulance chasing ... Did I say repulsive? ... American lawyers, so they stopped selling on the American market.
