WrongWay 0 #1 April 7, 2004 Yes, I can spell Cypres. I know since the release of the Cypres 2, this has become much less of an issue, but for those who were swooping ponds before this or don't have one (Cypres2), do you jump a Cypres anyway, accepting the risk of losing it in a chow, or do you go without one because of that same reason? I like to have fun with my canopy as much as the next guy, but my piloting is nowhere near swooping the pond, so this is strictly out of curiosity. Thanks! LawnDart21 0 #2 April 7, 2004 For me, taking the cypres out of my container makes the most sense. I have an original cypres, so if I am swooping a pond, I am only doing a solo hop & pop, so the need for a cyrpes in my honest opinion is neglible. I will take it out of my container for swooping the pond, and put it back in when I am done/dry. Once my cypres outlives itself, iw ill replace it with a Cypres 2 and not change it out, but until then, I will try whenever possible to take it out before going over water. -- My other ride is a RESERVE. SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 April 7, 2004 I have swooped many a pond with my CYPRES still in with no ill effects. I got caught with an out-of-date reserve in my "pond" rig at PSN 2001 (my fault for not checking the date on my card), so I had to jump my primary rig. I just turned the CYPRES off and hoped for the best. The rig was soaked twice and after the meet when I fired my reserve on the ground to dry it, I pulled the CYPRES out and checked it. It was barely moist, so I dried it off and did a functions check; no problem. Would I recommend that all the time? No, but I competed in two "water" meets with that rig and never had a problem; your milage may vary. I do not have a CYPRES in my pond/birdman rig and that does not bother me at all. skygod7777 0 #4 April 7, 2004 i take my cypres out when i swoop a pond. i have been wet in a pond before with my cypres in (rantoul the first year, about 7 am) and i pulled my cypres out as soon as i was out of the water, and it was wet inside, not really too wet, but there was water in there. i gave it to ssk since they were there, they sent it to germany, and nothing was wrong with it. but i still take it out just because i paid good money for it, and would like for it to work. later

Amazon 7 #8 April 7, 2004 Yup just bought a brand new Cypres2 for my new rig. With my new Samurai I plan on venturing down the hill to Andy's Pond at Kapowsin... that should make for some BIG SPLASHES once the water is warm enough
rhino 0 #9 April 7, 2004 I have a cypress in my rig.. I swoop the hell out of the pond at the wffc. Never gotten the rig wet with an exception being the BOC. I even landed in the water once a few feet short of the sand, but standing up.. The water was barely at the bottom of my rig.. Kited the canopy out as it never got wet. I guess I'm just willing to take the chance. I can tell before I am actually over the pond if I will make it based on the energy and speed I am carrying. Usually if I have any doubt I cut a corner or stay near the edge and carve out. There may come a day however where I dunk my ass in the middle. But I doubt it. Will be putting together a second rig this year with my racer and no cypress. Then I can get wet and not care.. Rhino

It's certainly part of getting better. I just took my cypres out. I'm thankful I'm a rigger as that will certainly aid the taking out/putting in costs
