NeedToJump 0 #10 June 28, 2004 QuoteI am a experienced freeflyer and canopy pilot and don't tell me swooping is a hole other ball game because I played that game and struck out a few times (The quote is from another thread here) It's pretty obvious that you're a really good canopy pilot far beyond us mere mortals who spend thousands of jumps learning to get better. Why go with a 66? That sounds too big for you and would probably only hold you back from learning to your fullest potential. You should call Icarus and ask them if you can get your hands on the VX 39, it would probably be a much better canopy for you. You might even try getting your hands on the Xaos 21-21 (21 square foot crossbrace) - you're probably good enough to be the first person to land it. If you're still progressing too fast then try a wingsuit, those are even smaller and you can get a lot more forward speed. Good luck with your learning, I hope you make it Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
namdrib 0 #11 June 28, 2004 As silly as that sounds, I'm going to have to agree, lets give someone a chance to deepen the gene pool a little. chachi 0 #15 July 28, 2004 you sound even smarter than the guy with a velo 80 and 20lbs. of lead. you should find out if he is going to walk again from JP. if he is, i think you may be ok to jump this with your massive experience. fuck dude, think about it. you think we're just trying to keep you under a thumb or something? ask the guys with 5000 jumps on the PST what they jumped at 600. ~chachi
chileanXaos 0 #16 July 28, 2004 What was your first canopy acro , people always told me the same when I ordered my 88 with 300 jumps , I started jumping a sabre 135 , and then downzised never had a problem , also had a frien that started jumping a velocity at 2.1 wingloading with 60 jumps , I thought he was crazy , now he is a really good swooper , and he is really safe . Maybe acro junky is prepared for that canopy , we shouldnt be so hard.

WOW! that's seriously progressing . your friend must be really talented in the canopy-department. you have got to be joking me, flat out, he's an idiot. it has nothin to do with how well you fly the canopy when everything is going fine. it is the experience that you need to have to just get bumped and bruised instead of broken femur, broken back, or just plain dead. you, my friend, thinking it is ok for someone with those kind of numbers jumping X brace with the little experience he had are plain wrong. what makes you guys think you are invincible with all the evidence of people breaking themselves? seriously. ~chachi

jeffmullins 0 #22 July 29, 2004 My older borther Joel started jumping a 99 Fx with around 80-90 jumps. My little brother Zach did his AFF on a nitron 120. Sometimes people progress fast enough to jump high performance canopies such as a 66VX with those jump numbers.
ManBird 0 #23 July 29, 2004 QuoteSometimes people progress fast enough to jump high performance canopies such as a 66VX with those jump numbers. Most of the times, people don't. So it's probably not a good idea to justify such a rapid progression to a stranger, by citing the exception."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
jeffmullins 0 #24 July 29, 2004 I was not justifying his desire to jump a smaller canopy, I was simply stating that not everyone is an incident waiting to happen. I have no idea who acrojunky is or how he flies. People for the most part get bent out of shape on wingloadings when it comes to incidents. Any canopy can kill you. ManBird 0 #25 July 29, 2004 True, but let's face it -- a sub-100 X-braced has a better chance getting flown into the ground hard than does a Spectre 190."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
