I landed a velocity 111 with no flare at all...none....I just whacked right into the ground. People running out thought I was dead, or worse. I gotta believe the hawkeye I was wearing at time helped me survive without a head injury. Yes, you can wear a good helmet and die anyway, but you never know when shit is going to go bad and it just might save your fucking life. Methane Freefly - got stink? ccowden 0 #3 August 27, 2004 I will NOT swoop, or skydive, without one! Granted, the freefly helmets aren't the best, but in the case of a mishap, it is certainly better than nothing. When I am JUST swooping, I wear a Protec halfshell. Something that will offer pretty good protection. I know that a helmet won't protect you from some of the accidents that can occur, but there are so many smaller accidents that can happen while swooping that a helmet can save your life. I usually tape my landings just in case anything "interesting" happens.
