xaos 27 or velocity and what size??

I am 190 out the door with 750 jumps several hundred on a crossfire 119. I jumped the katana 120 and wasnt that hooked. I have jumped a velocity 98 and it was nice deff going cb with my next. I havent had a chance to jump a xaos and wondered if i could get some general input on the diff and the flying charecteristics of both. I only had the chance to make one on the velocity. mainly I need input on xaos 27 loaded at bout 1.9 if any one knows how they fly as such thanks ben

i didn't really like the one xaos i tried. it was an 88 loaded at about 2.0ish i think. it just felt more like a conventional 9 cell then a xbraced canopy.

I liked the velocity i tried (a 96), however i ended up with the VX which i absolutely love. the vx has been the most challenging canopy i've ever flown and that's what i liked about it.

you're doing the right thing on doing as much research as possible, just try to demo all of them and then make your final decision. however, first and foremost is be very careful. none of us really know how you fly and so please just use common sense and fly within your abilities. have fun, be safe

I have over 3000 jumps on crossbraced canopies, for the most part on FXs, Xaos-21s and 27s. I have around 300 or so jumps on a vx. I just got an 88 ft Xaos-27 and love it. I would say that the xaos27 performs similarly to the vx, however it opens a lot better. I cant comment on the Velocity becasue I have only put around 3 or 4 jumps on one.

I went from a Crossfire 1-99 to a Xaos 21-85 then to a Xaos 27-79. I demoed Velocity 79 before buying the Xaos. I love the Xaos 27, great openings but it really likes to be loaded. I am 190ish out the door with lead and have about 1000 X-braced jumps. I also demoed the 83 XVX and thought it much too twitchy and lousy openings. The Xaos has much lighter front riser pressure than the Velo but harder rears. Precision will make whatever size you want. Also did not like the Velo openings.

Hi... I put about 350 jumps on a Xaos-21 108 before downsizing to a Velo 90 and a Xaos-27 93 (I'm 185 lbs without lead, out the door). I now have about 350 jumps on the Velocity and 200 on the Xaos. To me, they fly completely differently.

I find that the Velocity is "easier" to fly/land, with relatively light rear riser pressure and great soft openings, but a shorter control range. The Xaos opens even slower than my Velo, is a LOT twitchier and takes more concentration to land, has a deeper flare/longer control range, but front riser pressure builds up quicker than on my Velocity and has slightly heavier rear riser pressure.

If you would've asked me last week, I would've told you that I prefered my Velocity. But after this weekend, when I was forced to land the Xaos on rear risers only (no problem) and the very next jump on it gave me what felt to be one of my most efficient swoops ever, I'd have to go with the Xaos.

If your choices are the between a Velo and a Xaos-27, you really can't go wrong by choosing either.... unless you end up hooking it into the ground. However, my feel for what I like in my canopy's performance will be different than what you feel and enjoy from your canopy flight/swoops. So definitely demo each and see how they feel to you. I did, and I bought both .

I think you'll love the Xaos. Hands down it's the nicest opening crossbraced canopy avaliable. Flys nice too......
