canopy school advice

Recommended Posts

hey,
i have about 150 jumps but like many other people i've spoken to (many girls it has to be said) am not happy under canopy. i don't want to go doing any massive swoops or throw my canopy round the sky but just want to get down to the ground (preferably on the dz) and land safely. i live in the uk and have already attended the chris lynch canopy piloting session which was useful but i feel like i need something more.
i was wondering if anyone could recommend any other canopy schools etc. i've been looking at brian vacher's 3 day course out in spain....has anyone been on it? any thougts? i think there are a number of jumpers i know who would love to do something like this to help improve their confidence, knowledge and skill at canopy handling and safe flying/landing so any comments/advice is more than welcome.
cheers and sunny blues

I can only comment on the 1 course I have been on with my wife.

Jim Slaton's course was really good for us. Karen and I had very different goals: I wanted more feedback on getting more performance and how to progress on HP landings, Karen wanted consistant, soft straight in landings.

Jim did great with both of us. Karen left the course with a lot more confidence and her landings (which were not bad to start off with) have improved 100% to the point where she realy enjoys them now. Me, well, I need to jump at less busy boogies and events to work on my approaches! lol

Jim is based in Perris.

Hey Ginger Jo,

I attended Brian Vacher's course in November and would recommend it to everyone. Brian's a great teacher.
I have just spent 4 weeks in Lillo and seen a lot of his other students improving their skills and landings in just very few jumps as well.
Drop him an email through http://www.safeflightschool.com, he is very friendly and helpful.

Hi gingerjo

I attended Brian's course twice. It is very thorough and well worth it. He is an excellent instructor and if you're having problems with your landings (or other elements of canopy flight) he'll be able to sort you out.
