I took a quick look at the numbers last night, and there are a lot of jumpers who are breaking the previous record! Like the 4 minute mile, once someone did it, it wasnt a barrier anymore and everyone beating it became the standard. Cool stuff.

I have serious doubts about the 2.5 quote. 2.05 is the "standard" factory team wingload for distance.

Me too. I've never met him, but I spoke with a guy who has, and he says that Jonathan is 155 or 160 ish. He would have to be wearing 45 or 50 lbs. of lead to pull that WL.

that would make sense, or on the key pad the 2 is right under the 5, so maybe 2.2??

2.5 would be a lot for a velocity, they don't seam to handle the weight like a vx does (in my opinion).

Speed rounds invlove the pilots entering through a 5 ft gate and navigating a 180 ft course that is curved at 30 degrees (I think) and exiting out another set of gates as fast as they can. How fast? Well, a few had sub 3 second runs, most are between 3 and 4 seconds, so do the math.

Hey Kolla

I was at Sonic and Donna's last night while she had Bobo on spaeker phone and he definetly said 2.5. He said they hav been messing with some really high wingloadings. They werent the only ones beefing up. I believe JC and a few others went way up in loading this meet.

He said it has to do with the slingshot power aroundthe corner that was doing it, but who knows.

I noticed in the pictures of Tagle taken right after the distance run (posted on the LW website) that there is a weight vest and and weight belt sitting on the ground beside him and his discarded rig - so he deffinately was weighted up a little anyway.

Man, this could change everything. I was kidding earlier when I said everybody would start downsizing again...

Interesting. It apparently works though cause there were more than just Tagel up there with sick distances.

It'll be interesting to hear the science behind it all. I'd have thought that loaded that high it'd want to shut down really quickly.

If that is in fact what happened, then it's a veritible 180 degree change from what people flew all last year and the year before.

Just for discussion's sake I would just like to say that the distance runs on my 2.4 (without lead) loaded Velo 75 were about 40 feet on average shorter than they were under my 2.23 loaded 79. It was a much faster canopy in general flight and certainly when weighted up for four-way, but it fell off quite dramatically at the end of the swoop.

Tagle weighs about 160. If he was in fact loading a 90 at 2.5 then he was wearing 40 pounds of lead, or very close to it. I can't wait to hear the complete details. Fascinating.

I just looked at the photos on the Lake Wales site. Tagle does have both a weight vest and weight belt sitting next to his rig. His slider is in fact off, but his deployment system is still attached to the top of the canopy, and the canopy does look small enough to be a 90. I stand totally corrected from my previous hypothesis! All I can say is "wow."

I had a talk with Jonathan at the Wildwood PST meet last summer and told him that it was definitely his year. He had trained hard, travelled to a lot of meets, and done very, very well in them. I had no idea he was joining "Blue" at the time, nor do I think he had any idea. This is just great. Way to go, Jonathan!B|
