shadowswoop97 0 #1 May 2, 2005 Just wondering what dates the Skydive Chicago's cpc is scheduled for their first meet, Do we qualify to swoop the pond before the competition, or would we need to show up a few weekends early to qualify? Thanks much for the info. Can't wait for the competition.
DrewGPM 0 #2 May 2, 2005 I'm the man you're looking for. The schedule posted at http://www.canopypiloting.com/ill.htm. The competitions will be Sunday. Saturday will be used for practice AND for the MWSL 4-way and the new VRW 2-way competitions. I am not planning to use the pond for meet 1. People at the other DZ's haven't had a chance to see it yet, so i don't think it's fair. If you get a chance, please go to http://canopypiloting.tempwebpage.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=2504;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread and list yourself as a competitor. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
DrewGPM 0 #3 May 18, 2005 This weekend is our first competition. Just heard from the SDC staff, looks like we are gonna set up the courses over the brand new pond. That means we need to get guys qualified on Saturday. If you are PST qualified, you are already qualified. We're setting up the course friday afternoon...so come out and help....PLEASE! raymod2 1 #4 May 19, 2005 I can't say I'm pleased to hear about this. What is the criteria required to swoop the pond? What if someone fails to meet the criteria? Then he/she can't compete? Isn't the whole purpose of the CPC to provide a place for beginners to gain competition experience?
DrewGPM 0 #5 May 19, 2005 That's what i thought at first. Then Melissa (it's not Missy anymore) Nelson set me straight. If you can't pass the pond qualifier, you probably shouldn't be competing in the CPC...we'll set you up with a coach who will help improve. THAT is what the CPC is all about. The qualifier is less intense that I expected. You have to swoop through a 10 foot entry gate(on the grass) on three jumps in a row. We're gonna run qualifier jumps friday and saturday. If you can't qualify for the pond, there is no way you're ready to compete...make sense?
ccowden 0 #6 May 19, 2005 Makes sense to me. See you there!
CanopyPiloting 0 #7 May 19, 2005 Just a word to the wise, if you have a pond use it! Your holding qualifiers over the ground so they can swoop the pond? When you set gates up pilots often get target fixation causing them to put themselves in the corner trying to make the gate. Why, setting up too close (lack of experience swooping gates) and then diving at the gate. You want them doing this over the water, not the ground....period. Drew, please have Missy contact me...Jim
