Freestyle Pipe dream...

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to figure out the logistics of it for a few months too. I figured I wasn't the only one thinking about it, which definitely is true after Jim's post.

So now the question becomes...we all know it's coming - who's gonna do it first ;)

I wish we had a freaking pond at SDA. This is one thing I won't be learning over the ground :D

Care to share some of your thoughts Ian? Does it rely on the use of a wake somewhat like a barefoot water skier doing a flip?

I have seen vids of crw guys swinging upside down and hookin their feet on the risers so they are upside down, little bit of momentum by swining your legs might be enough to get all the way over.

my question would be isn't it likely that the brake lines could get pinched between the risers not allowing the pilot to flare. or is the pilot planning on dropping the toggles and going straight to rears

I've seen that done as well, it just seems a helluva lot easier to swing in your harness and use momentum to flip upside down at a couple thousand feet than it is to do in the seconds it takes to fly across a pond.

Hence the reason i thought they might rely on the momentum gained when they hit the water. Think about what happens when pilots fuck up on the pond, i've seen more than a few accidental flips through the risers.

I think Jim and the boy's are far further ahead in the figuring out process than I am. I'd try and use momentum to help me around though ;)

It's gonna be cool to see what comes out of this event. Wish I could make it...nuts....[:/]

i'm not too sure the momentum of hitting the water would help with a back flip, front flip yes, couple swoops come to mind where i've seen beautiful "front flips" through the risers:P. so if that's whats going to happen then anytime someone slams into the water and flip through their lines from now on they can claim it was a freestyle move as long as they make it out of the water right:P

Really? My first thought was back flip. Isn't a really tweaked out lazyboy 1/4 of the way to a back flip? If you could get some rotational momentum going by laying back kinda quick, combined with a little push off the water, I would guess you could use your abs to pull your legs up and over. Please note I said I would guess.

As for a front flip, or bouncing off the water, I would be really surprised if the idea was to impact the water hard enough to bounce your self through your lines. It would seem like it's too fine a line between just hard enough, and too hard (ouch).

Although I was really surprised the first time I saw Blindman....

Edit: Oh yeah, if Jim posted this on the forum, and made a webpage up for it, it may be slightly more than a dream..

Absolutely, you just KNOW someone's going to pull this one out at the meet :)
As for the rest of the stuff, I think we're all guessing but it's fun to speculate. Guess we'll see soon enough how they actually pull it off B|

Dude,

Admit nothing...
Deny everything...
Make counter accusations...

It will save you in the long run! I'll demonstrate for you:

"What are you talking about man? I have never pegged the pond. I think you are getting me confused with your futile attempts at swooping."

At last trash talking enters swooping competitions :D
