dragon2 2 #1 July 20, 2005 Is anyone interested in a short movie of the WorldGames, however without any footage of the PD guys? I can't complete the footage with other people's video because I'm afraid I was the only one allowed anywhere near for the entire competition, everyone else besides judges, official camera guys like Willy and Gustavo and the tv camera's, had to move away a looong way (for safety, you know a couple swoopers unexpectedly landed in the regular landing area - where ELSE?? - after the course was closed due to a chow, wow, we have to clear the ENTIRE area 'cause they may land there again!! Got some shots of JC being chased off by 2 blond security girls complete with dog ... Anyone interested in seeing the rest, or, nah don't go to the trouble if you can only show half the footage?? ciel bleu, Saskia

SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 July 26, 2005 Now THAT was a very cool venue! It reminded me a bit of Cleveland: you either make the small sliver of landing area or you are swimming! Fantastic!

dragon2 2 #11 July 26, 2005 For the video this sure was fun. Safety wise, I dunno, the water here was very deep. Jay did some tests with his weightbelt, 22 kg, the divers gave him a red lifesaving floating thingie. Right, straight to the bottom. Next: an official life vest. Straight to the bottom. You know what DID keep him up?? One of our orange toy-store swimming rings Then I tried, riiight, 22 kg on my shoulder, jumped in, couldn't even get back up to the surface! Jay could stay up 6 seconds, JC 12 or 14 or so. Oops. So the boat people were very quick, esp the kajak's worked really well. The salto guy still had a lot of trouble because he got the lines round his legs And after the comp was finished, one of the French freefly guys landed on the raft. A couple loads later, another very very famous freeflyer did the same... not!! New discipline: freestyle swimming The safety people were NOT amused even though he got himself on the raft real soon.... ciel bleu, Saskia
SkymonkeyONE 4 #12 July 26, 2005 Your post just begs for me to comment further about the hazards of jumping lead, particularly a LOT of lead, in competition. While this was a Open/Pro event and the caliber of competitors on the invite list was first-rate (at least to their country's standard), there were clearly some chows; at least one pretty dramatic judging by the video. The possibility, however remote, of sinking to the bottom of this admittedly-deep water after a chow would have me thinking twice about loading up to the very-high wingload flown by some of the very-best competitors this year. I figure it's only a matter of time before someone of consequence gets smart and starts wearing a belt with a quick-release. That or maybe people will simply get past this "must wear a ton of lead" stage that the Pro level of competition is experiencing. chuck
brokky 4 #13 July 27, 2005 While this was a Open/Pro event and the caliber of competitors on the invite list was first-rate (at least to their country's standard), there were clearly some chows*** The participants were basicly the top 10 of the last world cup (except Tobias because he is from the host country),so I think the level was not too bad ,even to your country´s standard...wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com
SkymonkeyONE 4 #14 July 27, 2005 That wasn't a dig on anyone, Bruno. You clarified the one point that I was making though, that this event had "home town" slots as host. None of that is really relevant to the point I was trying to make about the water depth/ lead issue though. Chuck
dragon2 2 #15 July 27, 2005 At least Henny has belts and ankle belts which have quick releases. But not the vest, and not the lead that's in the rig itself. The divers here (as in Voss, where the middle of the ponds were 2-3 m) had extra oxygen so if you do sink you can at least breathe while you're getting rid of your rig and lead. At least at Bussloo, the water is only 1 m deep for 60 m into the lake. You can still drown in 1 m water but you have to work harder at it ciel bleu, Saskia
SkymonkeyONE 4 #16 July 27, 2005 Right on. So long as there is a contingency plan in place (in this case the divers on hand with spare air) then I guess you are about as covered as you can be.
