Skydive Houston Swoops

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I must say this past weekend I had a total blast.
Since the CPC finals in Co, Brittany and I have been really working on our swoops. Saturday morning the day started out with some overcast (4,000 ft) so we got together a couple of hop and pop loads.

Around noon clouds cleared up and the weather was great from that point on!

Brittany, other swoopers and myself swooped the pond all weekend. Towards the end of the day on Saturday we had almost everyone at the pond watching our final swoops for the evening. Thank you Clint McClure for these great picture of us all.

Sunday, I did something for the first time. I went to rears on my landing and Oh my… What a difference. I cannot wait tell next weekend to go at it again.

Kat

Flying one's rears really rocks doesn't it? You will do so much better in the future once you get this technique down. Hope to see you and Brits again in CO next year (that's assuming I'm even there as I leave the state/country later this week). But I have evil thoughts in my head of returning for another summer of swooping next season. It's not going to be cheap, but it should be fun. ;)

Wow...I'm dumb. Should read the thread title. Luckily I have people like hookitt to save me from myself.....:D:P

Thanks man, you're gonna be missed in Cali...guess I'll just be forced to visit!

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

wow. so did you get wet?

rears are fun, and arent as scary as you think. just find your stall point with them up high, and dont go past that point. once you learn to fly with rears, you will be flying a compleatly different canopy.:)
im going to try and make it a point begining of next season to come out there and see you guys. think i could get a place to crash and a ride from the airport?:)

Once or twice... just replying for myself ;) On the pic though, I claim dirt water dirt on that one. If the gates were set up at the beginning of the pond, Kat and I would have both hit em. Its 300 ft.

Thanks for all the hot tips on em... I started a couple weekends ago and haven't gone back since. Its a different ball game now, you're right!

Yes, of course. All this is in the works, we've been talking about you guys ever since we got back from CO, scheming of ways to get ya'll here ;)
I bought those windblades this week that you see in the pics. I set them up as gates so we can practice... and the crowd that was drawn to come play with us was really a lot of fun! I have a feeling this year's going to be a blast :)

Good for you!!! All it takes is one person to be motivated to set up some gates and before you know it you've got a 1/2 dozen or so people at your DZ running them on a somewhat regular basis. And the only way to get better is to practice, practice, practice. If I don't come back to CO next summer to do what I did this summer as I'm thinking of, I for sure (assuming the DZO at the DZ I start jumping at in Canada lets me) will be setting up gates if they don't already have them and yes the $$$ will come out of my own pocket as well. Good luck with your swoops and I hope to see everyone again next year. Plus we're all going to be that much better. ;)

Oh and as Mark said, I too would like to visit some new DZs next summer and compete as a guest in their CPC comps. I figure the more places I compete (especially away from altitude since I grew up swooping at altitude), the better. I really need to learn how to swoop at sea level now.

tell ya what. you guys come out for the camp that we havent announced yet.;) soon, very soon.

and i will come out there for a weekend.;)

i can pick you two up at the airport and i have two extra bedrooms in my house, so no problem with a place to crash.

so even trade?:)

Ok, ok, already lets here more about this camp. When is it going to be? If we are going we need to start to make plans now...... B|

Don't be surprised if this isn't the only camp. I've heard rumors of other camps next summer (specifically at a place you and Brits jumped at not long ago where the air is very thin and the canopies fly very fast and very far). But I am not the one organizing this, so I better keep my mouth shut so that I don't say the wrong things. ;)

I don't know about having voodew, juju, and sharf all hanging around you though. I'm sure you smoked them all anyway.

Jeff -- yes the girls smoked me. Once Brit did the downwinder to set the landing pattern I would have been a puss to back out then even though in the plane I begged for an into the wind landing -- as for Juju well notice he had to bail out early or he never would have made the other end of the pond -- he barely made the gates --- but in his defense he did drag toes ------- I didn't:(

Voodoo and JuJu I can understand, but Sharf? What the hell? The Gene Wilder look-a-like is really up to no good, I promise! :P

Maybe some good?? I had the longest and cleanest water (proof is in the pics) for the weekend and I did my first two 270's!!

Voodew, don't hate the player, hate the game. Oh thats right you did hate the game, you cried the whole way up about going downwind. I don't understand why you feel the need to bash me all the time. where is your loyalty? I brought you in to the sport, taught you everything you know and you treat me like this. It's ok, i will work with you some more on your CC you just need to accept the fact that it will take time ( as i'm sure everyone will agree your a little SLOW) but thats ok i fell it is my duty to work with the under privileged. by the way i like your trailer it looks alot like the short bus you use to ride back in school.
