looping

impressive indeed, but thats tumblings, not loopings

If he was tumbling, he wouldn;t be able to do 800 times in a row.

Maintaining the speed to keep line tension is key to making that work, and not dying. That shit is crazy, and those canopies are so different from ours in how they work and what they can do. If there was some way to get a canopy that could loop and then dive 1000 ft and swoop, THAT would be something.

That's pretty damn cool. It took me a couple minutes of watching it to figure out exactly what's going on, but it looks like the pilot and his wing are rotating about a center point, the pilot held at the radius of the "loop" by his mass and the wing is held by the outward lift it generates. I am pretty impressed at how long he keeps it going. I don't imagine this would be anywhere near possible with any kind of skydiving canopy :P

What ever it is is is F'ng cool. Seems "Crazy" to some degree maybe but still with the design differences between that canopy and a skydiving canopy maybe not. Either was it was cool and that he seemed to be able to keep going is impressive..

Do that in a freestyle portion of a swoop event and get a few extra points maybe.....

the name of the "trick" he is doing is a tumbling... The pilot is "flying" backwards

In a looping he would be flying forwards

It's posisble to loop a canopy. The worst opening I ever had was caught on video and the loop my canopy went through during it is plain as day.

That sucks... what exactly happened? Slammer opening and it surged forward hard? I'd like to see that video, it just doesn't seem possible...

I really don't know what happened. One second I am reaching for my risers and the next I am seeing stars and then I think "Oh look, blood" when I see where my right hand got whipsawed against the risers.

The video shows the canopy just kind of jerking aorund then it goes into a banking dive and suddenly goes into the loop then continues to jerk around for several more seconds before stablizing. The jerkiness really reminds me of looking at motion in fornt of a strobe light. If I had to hazard a guess, the jerikness might have been the result of one of the canopie's ribs failing at a crossport. No earhtly idea what caused the loop.

Hi guys,
Just some small precisions:
it isn't a tumblig , the real nameof this trick is infinity or infinit tumbling . Only 2 lads perform it in the world , Raoul Rodriguez (the Man who invented most of the acro tricks) et Antoine Montant ( a genius too. his brother is Val Montand of the soul flyers team ) .
They are professional and fly + 4 hrs per day and never try wath they perform because you will simply fall in your wing and....then wait a few time and walk towards the light !

Chris
P.S they perform ground launching too and believe me it is full of power. Our site is located at Punta bagna Val fréjus France

Looks like he just reverses his turn at the right time and the oscillations carry into THAT SHIT...

Kept giving myself line twists no matter how hard I tried. Best I could get was a crooked looking barrel roll. Now I know I can't do everything with this canopy!:S

Whoever that is is a frickin idiot. I watched the first two videos and was thinking to myself "wow...that could really bite him in the ass." and sure enough...video number three...skydiving is not idiot proof.

Cheers,
Travis

Paraglider can do the loop or “wing over” much easier than parachute
I’ve done it a couple times on my paraglider several years ago (when I was young and stupid) but after friend of my friend died in the accident doing similar loop (Christmas wrap) I’m not even trying it any more. And I will not even recommend you to try.

Paraglider is 53 cells and 280 sq.f. - huge elliptical wing with completely different flying character.

I have done this but not so low to the ground. I used my rear riser after coming out of a turn.
If you play the first video and stop where he initiates the turn you will see the RH rear of the canopy flair.
I must add that I don't think that this should be attempted at normal flying speed or a low wing loading.
