m1keymike 0 #1 January 12, 2006 im currently jumping a faqtor 135 in a next container. lovely kit, and canopy but i want to make a few changes, the risers are standard, so i want to get some longer ones, the slider always rides up even when collapsed and gets in the way of the rears and the dive loops. what are peoples suggestions? how much should i lengthen my risers by? and what can i do about the slider, im not too keen on attatching it to my jumpsuit or kit. cheers 'if you cant hook it, burn it'
chachi 0 #2 January 12, 2006 my advice is don't play with riser length / canopy dive until you really want a longer dive. way more important things to perfect first. as for your slider i messed with many different things and then settled on the ball / elastic on the rig. simple and safe. if you chop, it is gone. thepollster 0 #3 January 13, 2006 I advise most people to get the longest risers you can find and still reach the slider on. People with longer arms are going to be able to use a different length than others, so it is a very personal choice. As for keeping the slider down, a piece of webbing sown to both front risers will do the trick without attaching the slider to you rig or jumpsuit. There is a fancier version called s-locks, so consult your rigger on what they can do for you.
chachi 0 #4 January 13, 2006 ^ why the longest riser advice?
thepollster 0 #5 January 13, 2006 Quote^ why the longest riser advice? Many people (not just swoopers), myself included, have found they don't enjoy flying a canopy with short risers. So if you have short arms and 19s are the longest you can safely fly, that would be your ideal length. However, if you can reach the slider on 22s, you would probably enjoy the 22s more once you tried them. To prove my point, try and find the shortest risers you can find, which should be 16 or 17 inches, and hook them up to your canopy and report to us what you thought. I've done that and found it substantially harder than landing my normal risers, even straight-in.
