PST/CPC weight restrictions

Which keeps in turn with why I suggested keeping swoopers in the 5 ft course. To swoop flat and level, you have to work within the limitations of the wing.

correct. but you wont go as far, nor will you go as fast.

Which is why each canopy has its optimal loading.

Anyway, call it what you want but I'll make sure everyone I'm discussing it with is on the same page. Recovery arc manipulation discussions can be disasterously misunderstood.

how so? tell me, please don't show me.

Less suspended weight in the harness (touching water) can cause the canopy to climb because it is not carrying as much weight, this will cause the pilot to lift off the water, reload the wing and descend again.

No fuel, simple physics. ;)

Dude i think you're physics are off a bit... i mean how much weight can be unloaded by dragging the foot?? "IF" you still say enough (to swing the suspended body forward and up), then consider the DRAG you;re creating with your foot when you're uhm... dragging it :)

maybe jay will post on here and tell everyone about it then.

then again maybe he wont.

find the live broadcasts on CP.com and jay actually discusses his technique a little bit and where he has got his idea's from. needless to say he's done more research than me or 99.9% of the people on here about this subject.

Also, to everyone on here reading this stuff, no matter if you're a newer swooper or experienced, please take all of this crap we're talking about with a grain of salt. a lot of this stuff, if not all, is just theory right now.
if you want to learn about pendullums, inertia, rotational momentum, or whatever, research the stuff on your own. then ask more qualifed people what they think, then get professional coaching, then ask more people again, then test out your theories slowly and up high.

i'm not trying to hold anybody back but most of this crap is too advanced for a lot of us and should be concentrating our efforts and focus elsewhere.

you guys are way over analyzing this. you see any "physics major" winning swoop comps?

Having the "know how" and being able to actually do are two VERY different things, man. I BET you that there are people here that know a LOT more about flight physics then you EVER will. You just have the (great) ability to execute.

very true...

but I still dont think that it is BAD for ANYONE to see it. but you are correct 100% stu.

if so, maybe all of us swoopers. should go get our own place and trade secrets with each other so nobody else can see them.:P

Out of curiosity, how would you judge this?

By having a judge at each set of 5 ft course markers.

Judging if someone is less than 5ft off the ground at one single point is a relatively easy problem to solve - a video camera or infrared beam can do this. Judging if they stay below 5ft across an entire swoop course is a little tricker, as you've got a much larger area to cover.

Thinking about it, you could probably get away with sensors every 20-30m.

The pop up thing, for those in control, is quite intentional. Feel free to talk to Jay, Ian or any other accomplished swooper you don't have to take my word for it.

Have to tell you your way wrong, Ian is right on this. The pop up is intentional as hell, trained it all last year. Here is why: Fire a BB gun straight how far does the BB go, fire it at a 5* angle how far does it go.

the energy is created while still in the dive, not on plane out and not to "pop" up. if done right, you let go of the rears just before your even level. it is all energy, and it is not "poping up". you dont do it intentionally, It just happens when you create the energy and "dig" yourself out of the corner. "pendelum"

it isn't wrong. you dont intentionally "pop up", it just happens when you do everything right.

ok, since im wrong, that means you know how to do it. you trained for it right?

now explain it.:)
or better yet, tell me and everyone else how it is done. prove me wrong.

dude, It just happens, settle with that.
