MrHixxx 0 #1 May 18, 2006 Hey Folks, A couple of summers ago Jim Slaton showed me a knot to make a temp setting on a brake line for experimenting with settings for opening. Does anyone or Jim have instructions with photos for doing this? I have a friend that wants to experiment with deeper brake settings on opening to cure some searching his canopy does. Then I can run new catseyes where he wants them. thanks, Jondeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
beowulf 1 #2 May 18, 2006 A butterfly knot would work. http://www.abc-of-rockclimbing.com/howto/learnclimbingsingleknots.asp
johnny1488 1 #3 May 18, 2006 Well Im pretty sure I wouldnt want to jump with that thing halfway up my brake line. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
davelepka 4 #5 May 19, 2006 Was this a knot that would allow full usage of the toggles after you relaese the brakes? Or did you just check the opening, pop the barkes, and fly it down on rears? I'm having trouble picturing a knot that could go through a guide ring. You could also try - Add an extra set of links to all the line groups, effectivly shortening your brake setting by an inch. Or get the small Velo slider from PD. It speeds up the openings a bit and gives it less time to search. Or just install a new cats eye, and jump the thing. My favorite option - tell your buddy to stop being such a fag and just jump the canopy. There's a shitload of Velos out there, and 99% of them are set up at factory specs with the big slider. Just grow a sack and jump it.
beowulf 1 #6 May 19, 2006 actually I wouldn't want to jump with any knot on my brake lines. That was the first knot that came to mind. I also don't have any interest in adjusting the brake settings. I only know of one person that did mess with the brake settings and all I have to say is be very prepared to cut away. It most likely will be come necessary. davelepka 4 #8 May 19, 2006 Why did I think this was on Velo? Either way, the all the ideas I had will work on any canopy. Remind your friend that every canopy will bang open every now and again. Making it open faster all time will just make it that much closer to that, and most likely will have more openings where the slider loose, and run down the lines at Mach2. hookitt 1 #9 May 19, 2006 Pull a daisy chain loop through the existing catseye. Edit...Nevermind. That's a bad Idea. It will tighten over the toggle and most likely fail to release. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
MrHixxx 0 #10 May 19, 2006 Actually, my buddy has a xaos 21 cell 135. It hasn't opened the same since his reline (searching and line twists). It has been back to Precision for them to check out (took several months) and they say it is okay. He has also been thoroughly ribbed about body position too. So I thought maybe a deeper brake setting would help on opening, but wanted to experiment with test jumps to find that setting before initiating surgery on the damn thing. I own a Velo 96 and I did raise the catseyes 2 inches (per buddy Joe Bennet) and it opens great now. I prefer the slow opening of the stock slider with deeper brakes. So stop talking about my sack that way, it is going to get a complex. -Jondeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
