Mikko 0 #1 July 8, 2006 Hello, A friend of mine told me he had seen an altitrack altimeter with canopy mode on swooping tour, anyhow I didn't find any word about that in the altitrack manual. What I mean with this canopy mode is an option where the normal scale (0-6000 meters or 0-18000 ft/round) changes to 1/10 of the original (0-600 meters or 0-1800 ft) when flying under an open canopy. (Will remarkably help flying the pattern before swooping, and is much better than any digital display..) Is this just a rumour or is there such an option in the normal version of altitrack?, or is it some other model maybe to be released in the future being tested by the pros on PST.... How waterproof is altitrack anyway? If I "dive" into the swooping pond, does it work after that (without any service, like cypres filter change for example..) -Mikko

Have you actually tried using a digital display...or compared the 2 side by side (needle pointing to #'s vs. an LCD display)? Just curious... Mikko 0 #3 July 11, 2006 Haven't tried that, I just like checking the altitude from my good old barigo..(Using optima for the swoop pattern anyway.) Got also answer from manufacturer, and there isn't such an option in the altitrack.
saxboy 0 #4 August 2, 2008 Hi! I bought mine a few days before but I don't test it yet. Also it has an option "freefall log" or "freefall log +canopy log" I don't know what "canopy log" means but I believe I will find it out next week.
rhys 0 #5 August 2, 2008 The alti track logs your canopy ride, so after the jump you can see how much height you lose in practice turns and final turn and the vertical speed of the turns. otherwise it is like any normal alti while under canopy. If you have an optima, an altitrack and your eyes, then you should have no problem turning at the right height.
