AggieDave 6 #2 August 23, 2006 I was wondering that myself a while back and so I asked. Still didn't get a full definative answer, but learned a bit about swoopings history. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1699732;search_string=godfather;#1699732--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." johnny1488 1 #5 August 24, 2006 I was talking with Phil and he said he got a lot of ideas from Rickster and someone else when they were up at the Ranch in like 93. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
Derekbox 0 #6 August 30, 2006 I think swooping was a gradual development that just now in recent times came into its own. Someone did not wake up one day and invent it, so much as over time, it was developed through the input of many and the sacrifice of many more.

AggieDave 6 #8 August 30, 2006 Quote The link to the thread that Dave posted will tell you all you need to know. When I posted the link I went back and reread the thread. What a fun piece of history yall were able to put together for me (us). Looking back even for the time that I've been in the sport, swooping has evolved quickly and skill sets are so far beyond what I could have imagined. Many of the CPC competitors are beyond what I was seeing (in person and on video) of the top "pro" fliers back in 2000. I can't wait to see where it goes.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Couldnt agree more!! Even in 2001-02 there was may be 15% of people using rear risers @ some of the events i saw... I think today a decent swooper with 1000-1500 jumps and 2-3 years in the sport is years ahead of a 3-4 thousand jump pro of 2000-2002... Pilots are progressing so fast, quickly catching up to the evolution rate of the wing design. These are exciting times for swooping and canopy piloting.
