SkymonkeyONE 4 #12 January 9, 2007 Dude, spend less time working on "trendy" turns and you will always finish at least in the middle of the pack. There is no turn more effective for scoring cleanly in competition than the 270.

ianmdrennan 2 #14 January 9, 2007 QuoteDude, spend less time working on "trendy" turns and you will always finish at least in the middle of the pack. There is no turn more effective for scoring cleanly in competition than the 270. Chuck, for sure. I knew for a fact I could score far better doing my usual turn on my usual canopy. That said I'm trying to continue to push myself as a pilot and I feel this is another step towards that goal. Unfortunately I realize that my comp scoring will likely suffer for a while still but I believe the payoff will be worth it. While I want to do well in comps, pushing myself is more important to me so if that means suffering a bit, I'll take it (grudgingly ) Blues, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
frost 1 #15 January 9, 2007 what was the logic for changing your turn AND your canopy for a competition?
proswooper 2 #16 January 9, 2007 He wanted to come first but ended up coming second............last!!! Ian it happens to the best of us but fortunately for you tho, anyone who has flown with you before knows that you are someone to watch out for in a comp! this goes for everyone, no experience in competition is a loss, as long as you learn from it. ianmdrennan 2 #17 January 9, 2007 Quotewhat was the logic for changing your turn AND your canopy for a competition? I hadn't changed either in the comp, it was just my first comp using them. I'd been practicing 450's on my 90 for about 2 months or so. I just received the 84 and didn't have many jumps at all to get used to it so it really became a combination of factors. Ultimately I decided that the best place to learn what areas need work is a competition so I decided to just bite the bullet and see how it all panned out. Without a doubt I learned a bunch (as usual in comps) and I'm excited to go and practice/work on some areas that obviously need improvement Overall it was still an incredibly postive experience. Plus the other pilots were flying spectacularly so I got to watch some good swoops as well Hope this explains it a little bit at least. SkymonkeyONE 4 #19 January 10, 2007 You are entirely correct, Sooty! That said, I didn't just about rip my big toe off my foot and get hauled off in the meat wagon like Jody Conn did a few days ago here on a botched 450. My "big" turn is still only a 360. Ultimately, I don't think anyone has any business throwing turns larger than 270 in competition if they cannot hit the gates every single time and stay within the course boundaries using that "little" 270. "Go big or go home" doesn't mean shit when you get spanked routinely by girls and old men with Vectran lines in competition. Still, I applaud Ian's attitude. I guess it's all good so long as people don't start using his and Eldon's name in the same sentence as it relates to such "experimentation". sunnydee123 0 #22 January 10, 2007 I'm not sure how to take the "getting spanked by girls" comment.....hmmm.....maybe I'll train a little harder to spank more of the boys this year - so the ordeal will be a little more threatening down the road. But Ian has a hottie who I'm sure spanks him whenever his little heart desires...........oh to be so lucky I can't wait for the first CPC meet - hope to see lots of people in Lake Wales Feb. 24th......come on girls - come help me show our true colors!
