jerry81 10 #51 April 17, 2007 Quote Any idea where i can get 2 of these rings from? I think it might solve some issues i have with pulling my front risers. Might as well give it a try. Most people I know just cut them off an old pair of risers. You can also order a pair of stainless 3/4" rings from Paragear or another skydiving store. Although I did get some shit from my friends for going through all that trouble when I did it...
JGarcia 0 #52 April 18, 2007 QuoteI have NEVER seen any US competitor or "fun swooper" jumping this configuration either. Edited to add, though, that it seems like a reasonable idea and I guess I will try it out for myself to see how I like it. Seriously! When I first read about this I thought maybe I was the only one living under a rock or something. It sounds like a GREAT idea! I was just talking to someone this weekend about how I had to retrain myself to reach out and then up to reach past the guide ring to get to the top of my rear risers without losing tension on the toggle. Up until very recently, I grabbed my rear risers right at the guide ring, but can definitely feel more precise imputs by reaching higher. I think I'll be trying this configuration pretty soon. I'm jumping 24" risers, btw. cheers! --JairoLow Profile, snag free helmet mount for your Sony X3000 action cam!

hookitt 1 #54 April 18, 2007 Ah... When I replied earlier, I was thinking of the softlinks with a ring instead of a tab as the lock... That set up looks fine. TimMy grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
kamalasound 0 #55 April 18, 2007 I jump 24" risers and might not feel the difference but I'll give it a try in the next days. Thanks for the pics!!
cessna54tango 0 #56 April 18, 2007 this actually looks like a great idea. so, as mentioned before the only downside i see is the slider grommet, or rings getting nicked or dented from the stainless rings you run the brake line through. you guys that are running this system, have never had that problem?
SkymonkeyONE 4 #57 April 18, 2007 I run milled stainless steel rings with my removable slider, so I seriously doubt it could hurt them. What I CAN see as a potential problem (depending on where you locate the ring) is wear on the Slink from control line friction (particularly with HMA). I am going to setup both of my new rigs with some variety of this system next week when I get home. Chuck
cessna54tango 0 #58 April 18, 2007 are you running joes rds, i have the same one so that would be a plus. however, how do you see the brake lines wearing the slink as most likely the pressure will be away from the slink and on the ring. correct me if im wrong. i guess the way to check is to jump it and look
SkymonkeyONE 4 #59 April 18, 2007 Well, I pull outwards on my rears and I flare outwards after I transition, so I am going to put the rings on the outboard sides of the slinks. There ought not be much, if any rubbing. Yes, I run Joe's slider. Chuck
proswooper 2 #60 April 18, 2007 i use the same milled rings and i had to re finish mine because they got damaged. not a problem so long as you keep an eye on it. no punn intended.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #61 April 18, 2007 Then perhaps the answer is to attach them to the backside of the slink or where the three-point is sewn.

Chuck if i were you i would sew the ring through a small piece of fabric in the middle of the riser right below the loop where the slink goes through on the riser. it will mean that the times you want to pull the slider down it will move more freely over the ring.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #63 April 19, 2007 And that makes sense to me as well. Just put one of those small rings on a stow bar right at the top of the three-point.
Swooopa-x 0 #65 April 20, 2007 general post for interest sake. not a direct response to your post paulie. Been using this setup for around 750 jumps now. i am using 300 hma cascaded lines. and 900 hma brake lines. i have the 'top rings' (cut off an old pair of risers) attached thru the slink on the outboard side of the rear riser/ slink assembly. my removable slider uses a simple ring cut from the large 3ring system seen on non mini risers like on tandems. *NOTE yes this ring is slightly too large, so i hav replaced the casino chips in the canopy's stabilisers with slightly larger ones to avoid the slider hanging up on a stabiliser. i hav seen no wear on the slinks. i hav seen no wear on the brake lines either. i hav seen no dents or knicks on the top rings or on the removable slider rings. my slider does not attach to the rings by means of a length of line like most i've seen. instead i hav kevlar webbing. Here i HAVE seen some wear from the slider rings. none of this is gonna make you go 200 metres but the benefits exist and the difference in feel is notable.People dont care how much you know until they know how much you care. ORANGENBLUE 0 #67 April 22, 2007 I hooked it up today and made a few jumps. I really liked it. I was concerned that it might cause tail flutter, but it wasn't affected.

IMGR2 0 #69 April 23, 2007 Modified my X-1 this weekend and I really like it. No tension on the brake lines in front risers and it feels really nice on the transition to rear risers. Where the brake line keeper is almost takes your hands right to where they need to be.

SkymonkeyONE 4 #71 April 26, 2007 QuoteFantastic stuff. I top-ringed by new canopy today and thought I would post my first impressions. -I liked the absence of fumbling around the guide rings during the front riser to rear riser transition. -I did not like the extra slack and associated "bump" when I transitioned from rears back to toggles at the end of the swoop. I am going to give it a few more jumps before I switch back, just to give it a fair shake. I could see it being a real benefit for guys with long arms, but I simply don't have that problem. SkymonkeyONE 4 #73 April 26, 2007 Oddly, yesterday I found out that both Sally Hathaway and Dave Ruffell (both from the UK, but living/working at Z-hills) have the mod on their rigs and have had it for some time. I never noticed and I definitely never heard of it before this thread.
IMGR2 0 #74 April 26, 2007 I have not had that much experience using my rear risers yet but with this mod I'm finding it to be very easy to transition. About 8 jumps on it and I'm liking it.
