New to swoop

I think the N3 (not the N3A) is a good digital altimeter in general. The canopy alarms can be heard when it is on your wrist too.

As for the vengeance, I think it has a lot of dive. Do a search for vengeance here in the forums. There is one post quoting John LeBlanc talking about why PD discontinued the vengeance. He says its dive is pretty close to the velocity. I've jumped a vengeance 120, 107 and katana 107. Both canopies have light front riser pressure but the Katana's is a little lighter. Both of them dive very similar. I felt like the Katana was trimmed steeper in full flight than the Vengeance

Either the Neptune or the Viso are great for your visual, and I am in love with the Optima for audible cues, which is a must.

The Vengeance is excellent for swooping. You can turn it high and still keep your speed to the ground, which is always safer. It dives longer than the XFire 2, and a bit shorter than the katana, with better feel on the front risers. It is a great canopy.
Peace,

Hi...

looking for a good digital alti for swooping...any suggestions?
Also, how is the Vengeance for swooping? Any one swoop a vengeance? hows the recovery arc compared to a Xfire2 and a katana?

Certainly not a swooping expert. However, I have a Vengeance 120 that I used as my primary canopy for about 8 years. I have about 1,500 jumps on it and loaded it at about 1.7 (started at about 1.5 when I got it). No need to downsize if you just get fatter I guess. I got it after having a Jedi 136 and got sold on the airlocks. I guess I'm a little biased.

It was the first canopy I used to learn high performance landings on. I found it to be a very nice canopy for this purpose. It has a very long dive if you want it to and light front riser pressure. In fact, when I started jumping a Velo, I was very surprised that its dive was comparable to the Vengeance.

Despite its ability to dive, I found it to very capable of performing flat turns when necessary. This was very useful when I found myself in a situation where I needed to make a turn lower than I was comfortable with for whatever reason.

The ridgid structure is nice for turbulence. It also shuts down pretty nice, even on downwind or crosswind landings or when flown straight in.

Unfortunately, the openings have much to be desired. Not hard really, but it opens off heading very regularly and line twists occur from time to time. Fortunately, I never had to chop it.

It is also a pain in the ass to collapse on a windy day (and carry back to the packing area) no matter what technique I tried to use. People loved to give me a hard time about my air mattress.

I've always has a VISO on my wrist and I found a good price on a Neptune so I put that in my helmet with my other dytter.

I was used to the VISO display so that's the way I went with the visual and I put the canopy alarms in the ear.

I don't really use the alarms that much except for pattern entry and setup. The VISO on the wrist is on a plate so it sits like a wristwatch. Once I'm open, I rotate under my wrist (display visible to open palm) and that lets it be quite visible whether in brakes, hands in the dive loops, or fronts pulled.

I'm really looking for my MP altitude on my VISO and I sort of tune out that 3rd canopy alarm. I just want to get to the MP in a window so it's the visual alti and visual clues that I use.

I think if you put the Neptune on your arm and you're used to it, it would work fine but I've never tried hearing the alarm outside with a helment on.
