Shu-Vue for Smoke Jumping?

Recommended Posts

just tie it off to your shoe or something, leave it hanging back a little, and it shouldn't burn to bad:P

there is something out there for that specific goal, i have one, i just can't remember were i go it. it has 2 places for the cannisters.

i think the shu-vue would work but why do you want to just 1 jump with smoke, it seams kinda dumb, unless you also want it for video.

What's wrong with jumping with just 1 smoke? Hell 2 smokes is 60 bucks -- that plus a jump ticket is pretty expensive jump :) Lemme know if you figure out where you got that thing from.

Uh, isn't the Shu-Vue made out of carbon fiber?

Ok, not a whole lot is going to affect the carbon fiber, but the resin around the carbon fiber, I'm thinkin' that's pretty flammable. You -might- wanna contact Jeannie over at Bonehead and see what she has to say about attaching smoke to that bracket.

If you really want a -smoke- bracket, you might want to contact Jim Wallace. Of course, he also might want to know what you're planning on doing and want to know if you have a Pro Rating, but he has some bitchin' ones. At least he did last year around this time. I'll probably be buying one in another month or so.

hell on paragear, just plain white smoke is 16 bucks. now if you want colored, well then ya, there like 28 a piece.

but what i was saying is why pay so much for a mount, that you will only use once??;)

Oh no the logic behind the mount was that i could use it for camera too..

Multi-use :)

so what you really want is someone to say yes so you can have a good excuse in you head to spend that much cash to wear a camera on you foot :P;)

You can build your own smoke bracket for about 20-25 bucks. I'll photograph mine as soon as I can. You can make a shoe mount for your camera for about the same. Oh, and smoke runs about $15 a piece. A good gear store will stock it...

Para Gear sells smoke made for skydiving. If you want a mount for a foot cam, BH sells one specifically made for that. If you want a dual use smoke platform and camera mount why not just use a BH sharkfin that was made to hold a PC camera? You could rig the platform to your leg via heavy duty velcroand/or bungee to hold the smoke/camera while keeping it on your leg. PM me or if I see you at Orange I'll hookyou up with more info.

Ok, not a whole lot is going to affect the carbon fiber, but the resin around the carbon fiber, I'm thinkin' that's pretty flammable.

Typically The cured resins are fairly non flamable. Unfortunately a Carbon fiber resin matrix is much more sensative to high temps. Woven Ceramic fiber has the highest resistance followed by S and E type fiberglass, 4th place goes to kevlar lastly carbon fiber. Carbon does give us the stiffest, lightest, coolest looking crowfoot fiber resin matrix but its draw backs are low heat resistance and High cost. Notice how we use a little residual oven heat to bake and reshape our mind warps to a better fit. The extreme heat of a smoke flair could cause the thing to deform drastically and "gel" around your body, very not good. Stick to dedicated smoke jumping brackets or maybe experiment with a little stamped steel and fiberfax insulation if you want but I don't see anything carbon can do for you in this case . Good luck . I'm planning on doing some smoke jumping (i.e. jumping with a smoke cannister) and from what I can tell there are no commerical smoke mounts for your feet. What do you guys think about the shu-vue for this application?

Hey kevin, I know you like the birdman, If your thinking of doing a smoke jump with a birdman suit, you should talk to someone with a lot of experience before doing it. Jari from Birdman would be a good place to start. Adding a smoke canister to your leg, and the way a canopy deploys with a birdman suit, is a bad combination. But it does look cool!

Sure buying a proper smoke bracket off Jim Wallace may sound like a lot of money, but the alternative is even more expensive.
Just ask Tuna, who f***d up with a smoke cannister and spent the next two months in hospital.

Smoke is dangerous stuff. Do it right or don't do it at all.
