vertigofreefly 0 #1 July 28, 2013 Hello Guys, I am jumping a wings container with a completion velocity 79. From day one I get pilot chute hesitation on short delays i.e. sub 3 seconds, however if I go to a 5 second delay the container opens ok. As anyone experienced this before? if so any advice how to make the bag come out of the tray when I throw the pilot chute sub 3 seconds.

Rookie120 0 #3 July 28, 2013 I had the same thing. I went with a 30 in zero P pilot chute with a stowless bag. Problem solved. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
Pablo.Moreno 0 #4 July 28, 2013 Or just delay always 5 sec. I got the same thing on my containers, pilot chutes love wind. If you are at a Cessna DZ tell the pilot to keep up the power that will also give you some momentum forward and would generate enough speed to make your 3 sec delays open just fine

cube 0 #6 July 28, 2013 Bridle length is an issue too. Never got a hesitation with ws modded mirage(longer briddle included), but with standard short bridle i've gotten a few.

matt002 0 #8 July 29, 2013 The hesitation is caused by insufficient force to lift the weight of the bag and canopy out the container, it's not going to be the pin tension causing the hesitation, I would go for a larger pilot chute size and ensure proper pin tension. vertigofreefly 0 #10 July 29, 2013 Hey Guys, Thanks for the advice. All of the above comments are correct, there is not enough drag from the pilot chute until the wind speed picks up enough to pull the bag out of the container. A bigger pilot chute is needed I think !
piisfish 140 #11 August 7, 2013 Do you have an original stiff main pin protector flap ? If yes, get the shorter modification to allow more flexibilityscissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Croc 0 #12 August 8, 2013 I got my Wings container in 2005 and always had problems with pilot chute in tow with subterminal openings, and had some very long tows on some CRW jumps. Last year I got a Precision pilot chute from Paragear. I think it is the same size but has a longer bridle. No problems so far. The flap idea I had not heard of. Makes sense, because it stays closed, which always seemed strange to me."Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so."
