Ron 10 #5 February 17, 2003 Ok, who was Airspeed Dragon? And who was on the GK 8? Ron"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,

mjasantos 0 #7 February 18, 2003 Quote Ok, who was Airspeed Dragon? And who was on the GK 8? Ron I think this is the correct information, but if somebody from Airspeed or Skydive Arizona finds a mistake, please correct me. Priority for Airspeed this season will be 8-way. Arizona Airspeed is continuing to train full time as the 2003 U.S. 8-way team and will compete at the 2003 World Meet in Gap France for the Ottley Sword once again. They'll still enter 4-way competitions with Airspeed Vertical (Johnny Eagle, Craig Girad, Neal Houston and Mark Kirkby) and Airspeed Dragon (Kirk Verner, Todd Hawkins, Eliana Rodriguez and Dennis Rook). Airspeed 8-way splits in Vertical and Dragon for 4-Way. Regarding GK-8 is a completely new team... I know that no one from the GK Gold (4-Way US National Champions) is in this GK-8 team. I've read somewhere (don't remember where), that 1 or 2 previous GK team members were called back, but I'm not sure about details. I don't know their names yet but may be any of them reading this forum, may drop us a note on their names. Ron 10 #8 February 19, 2003 I knew about the whole Airspeed 8 thing... I just wondered who was Dragon...and why they didn't keep Zulu as a name???? The GK 8way are Paul Rafferty SFC Team leader and 5 time World Champ. Matt Davidson 2 time World Champ? Brian Krause From GK Black Jason Harris From GK Black Scott Janise Andy Honigbaum (SP?) Aaron Clark Rumor has it that Brooks Weiner from GK BLack is on the team, but at a military school that he needs to get his SFC. airgord 1 #9 February 19, 2003 Tim and Ted were barely there. I spent the entire meet in the judges booth and only saw them when Rose Wagner brought in her fried chicken. They are both pretty busy these days and this is a "fun" meet (it was pointed out that every 4 way team that won this meet since '95 went on to win at the world meet) and doesn't count toward NSL etc.
airgord 1 #10 February 19, 2003 Airspeed 8 has Steve Nowak as camera and Jeremy Peters will shoot for Vertical and Steve Curtis has joined the team to shoot for Dragon after AZ Freeflight disbanded.
BikerBabe 0 #11 February 19, 2003 Actually, the GK8 that competed at this meet was the "old" team. John Hoover and the others from Gold jumped with them. I know Mike Scott is on the new GK8, because he's hurt and they asked my team's coach to fill in for him at point for a month.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! Ron 10 #12 February 19, 2003 Well I got my info from a picture from there...It could be wrong. But it had those I said with a caption "GK 8Way team". Oh well sorry then. nws01 0 #13 February 19, 2003 The GK 8 Way team competed with members of the GK Gold 4 Way Team because of injuries, illnesses, etc. However, the people Ron has mentioned above are the 8 Way team training in Yuma, AZ this year.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #14 February 22, 2003 Brooks Wiener from the "old" GK Black is on GK8. He is in SF ANCOC right now and will not be done for at least a month and a half. He is already an SFC. It is left to be seen if Tim Reynolds is going to recover enough to be brought onto GK8. His latest motorcycle crash broke him up pretty badly. GK8 is a four year project for Paul Rafferty. He was about to retire from the army the same time as I was, but was asked by the team SGM to give it a go. Paul accepted and now they are working to get the team trained up. Some of the members are seasoned competitors and others just getting their first bite. Scott Janise competed in the CaSL last year on the 82nd team with Matt Davidson, Neal Beverly and Tommy Sullivan. Matt, obviously, was the ringer on that team. When Scott Janise finished tryouts this year, he was recruited as a vidiot for GK8. Fortunately for him, injuries and unforeseen personnel availability put him in a flying slot. Same goes for Aaron Clark. By all acounts (P-Raff and Chris Talbert), Janise is kicking ass. Before they left for winter training, the goal was to do, I believe, 240 training jumps prior to the Valentines meet. Not sure if they met that due to some odd, unplanned medical emergency, but hey, it was their first meet, "improvised" roster notwithstanding. Another note here: in 4-way, GK Gold competed out of a Porter, everyone else jumped Otters. They did this, of course, because they are prepping for the world meet (which will be run out of Porters). I'm glad I got to see the 8-way launch out of a Porter, because I was curious...Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
