aljazm 0 #1 August 2, 2003 My team mostly jumps from Pilatus Porter (right door). We have the Arizona Airspeed CD and getting to exit C (murphy flake) I already have two questions I have noticed that the tail at unipod is holding both grips at the door. Does inside center hold his entire weight or is there a grip in the airplane that I can't see? Murphy flake - There are different positions on the image that shows the murphy flake (the tail is on inside center legs) and the exit positions (the tail is on outside center legs). On the CD the tail is inside the plane (holding both grips of the outside center). Is this because of the plane or is this the way to do this exit? We have done this exit on Pilatus Porter so that the tail, outside center and head are outside the plane and the tail only holds one grip of inside center. We still can't get it right :(( Thanks for your answers, Aljaz
quade 4 #2 August 3, 2003 When talking about the Murphy Flake, one must remember that the "C" stands for "Crappy". There's usually more than one way to do an exit, but what you're seeing on the CD is the way that Arizona Airspeed was doing them at the time the videos were shot. Then again, I'm just a camera flyer, so what the "F" do I know? Chris Riley? Paging Chris Riley! Ron 10 #3 August 3, 2003 Sometimes I "sit" on my knee with my legs sticking out. Then on the go I just kick off. Or you can just take one grip for exit and hold on to the plane. Then transition to the other grip."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
BikerBabe 0 #4 August 4, 2003 On the unipod exit, I hold on to the plane with my right hand, and the OC's leg with my left. Our IC takes the grip on my right arm. That way the formation launches intact. On the C exit, we chose to do it with me catted on the OC, instead of the IC. Yes, it's the B random, but it works better for us out the door. It's really a matter of choice based on your team's continuity plan and also your team's comfort level and ability with different exits...Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! harryskydives 0 #5 August 4, 2003 I am not tail, but i do love to chunk off exits. This weekend my team launched a flower. But what i learned was: it is most important for everyone to be comfortable, so that the piece presents to the relative wind. When i leave with grips, and not holding onto the airplane, I am still supporting my own weight, balanced on my foot or feet. If you are not happy with a head jam, or balanced, then pick the grip up after leaving the plane. Or try picking it up on ready. A good mock up is essential for getting the timing and balance. Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
