JustChuteMeNow 0 #2 September 21, 2007 Don't forget to put them on before you leave the plane. They flap all over the place. Or so I've heard Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.
moto89 0 #3 September 21, 2007 You're going to feel a significant amount of pressure on your lower legs/feet than you are used to. That's just the powa of the booties in action. Less talking, more flying.
Bill_K 0 #4 September 21, 2007 Quote Hey everyone. I finially recieved my brand spanking new jumpsiuit. I was wondering if you guys have some tips for flying with booties Do you do RW? One thing to keep in mind is when you use positive leg pressure to stay in a formation it will require less of it or your going to be driving the formation or driving through it. Watch your closing speeds, for the first little bit when you extend your legs to close on a formation you will be going faster. Though that will probably only last a jump or two. You can increase your range a good bit with them too. I.e. to slow down. If you point your toes out to the sides and drive down a tad combined with some arm pressure to arrest the forward drive you can really pop 'up' on a slower moving formation. Talk to a coach they can probably show you what I mean. Hard to describe in words. For some real fun, go out on a two way, take a left forearm to left forearm grip and both people drive your feet out like your tracking, or right to right, in any case you'll spin like a top. Lots of fun!! Be safe, and have fun, BK
rehmwa 2 #5 September 21, 2007 My observation on a new bootie suit owner. And in response to all these comments about all the 'extra' power you'll get...... One of the first things someone new to booties does when they get them is to respond to the extra pressure by bending their knees more and 'shadowing the booties behind their thighs. It's particularly apparent when the jumper is an old timer - I don't know why. Fight this impulse. Else you'll be pulsing the bootie in and out of the air and you'll get tossed about a bit and decide booties make you uncomfortable. They should make your flight SMOOTHER and more powerful - not jerky and more powerful. You WANT to feel more pressure than you are used to through your legs - so that the booties STAY in the airflow all the time. Think of them as a sail on a sail boat - you want it 'bellied' out all the time, not flapping. Counter the extra lift by raising your head and chest up high (the air slipping past your chest and neck will counter the forward thrust from the booties). Press down with your forearms and hands for upper body control. Counter the fall rate by being more narrow with your elbows and knees. (Booties are great, keep them in the flow. - learn the mantis body position - you won't be sorry - do a search here and find one of Ron's posts on the subject). ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
Broke 0 #6 September 21, 2007 I would like to thank you gus so for for those tips. I am heading up to CPI in about a week so hopefully I'll be able to find someone to help me learn how to fly with booties a little better. One of the reasons I decided to get the booties is because when I was at summerfest whenever I got seperated from the formation no matter how much I would drive myself back to the formation I just couldn't get back to it. I got measured while I was there by Tony, and consulted heavly with him on this. Seeing as how I am a newer jumper, and I am also a bit on the fall rate enhanced side. I also had problems floating back up to the formation once I went low. Even using everything I have learned. I still had a blast seeing as for the most part I am happy to know that I didn't just hose the exit To answer another question yes I am into RW now beacuse when I was on my student progression my instructors said that you need to learn to be near people before you should start doing that "Other" disciplin . Also I stick to my belly because well lets face it my rig is old and has no bridal protection. And the most important reason I like RW is Because it is really fucking fun Divot your source for all things Hillbilly.
