choll15 0 #1 May 2, 2008 I'm doing a presentation on 4-way for a group of jumpers new to the sport and when talking about the dive pool a random thought occured. Where the formation names come from? Obvious ones like 'Star' 'Caterpillar' and 'Donut' are probably generic and fairly easy to understand, but someone somewhere came up with the less obvious Marquis, Ritz and Photon! ..just a bit of fun reallywww.southparc.co.uk
peggs82 0 #2 May 2, 2008 Thats a great question, one I would, too, love to know the answer to! On a side note: I wish that no one had ever taught me those damn names! Learning the current divepool letters and numbers was so much harder because of it. Much like your native language, and learning a new one. You always try to refer back to what you know...ie "J...hmm....oh yeah, thats a Doughnut!" Start them off right!!!
pr0ject42 0 #3 May 2, 2008 [hijack] When I was coaching the kids at skyventure colorado, they never got the names, only the letters and numbers. To this day, even turning a 21 point average, the wonder-teen still wouldn't know what a meeker is if I asked her, but she can tell you what an E is. Now that is good fun.
