New Irish 51-way Record

Recommended Posts

A new Irish Record 51-way record was set today B|

We used four aircraft (Skyvan, 2 x Dornier, Porter) to haul the jumpers to 14,100ft, and held the formation for about 3 seconds.

All the squad are either Irish, Northern Irish or permanently resident in Ireland.

Blue skies!
Gordon

I had read somewhere that the Irish skydiving fun jumper population isn't very large...like 100, which seems terribly small. Is this the case? I'm curious how many of the participants on the jump were Irish nationals and what percentage of the total jumpers that accounted for in the country. If a 51 way was made of 51 Irish jumpers, and you've got 100 jumpers in the country, that's another level of congrats on top of what you already deserve!

Congrats!!

Thats really cool, how many skydivers are there in Ireland? Would be interesting to see which country has the biggest ratio or is that the smallest ratio? total jumpers to national record participants.

Ireland 51-way - 4m -> ratio 0.078m/person B|
Finland 58-way - 5.2m -> ratio 0.089m/person
Switzerland 84-way - 7.6m -> ratio 0.090m/person
Denmark 55-way - 5.4m -> ratio 0.098m/person
Belgium 80-way - 10m -> ratio 0.125m/person
Australia 81-way - 21.4m -> ratio 0.264m/person
Austria 24-way - 8m -> ratio 0.333m/person
Germany 156-way - 83m -> ratio 0.53m/person
Canada 59-way - 33.3m -> ratio 0.564m/person
UK 100-way - 60m -> ratio 0.60m/person
Poland 45-way - 38m -> ratio 0.844m/person
Russia 100-way - 142m -> ratio 1.42m/person

Congratulations Gordon! Heard the women got a 10-way too and were trying for a 15-way.

Thanks Jim. Yes, for your database, during the same event two other National Records were set:

Irish FEMALE FS big-way = 13-way, built Wed 30 July 08.
Irish POPS FS big-way = 12-way, built Sun 27 July 08.

The 51-way record was built on the 2nd attempt.

On day 1 of the record-event we set a 36-way national record which completed on the 3rd attempt...that record lasted only 48-hours :)
All participants in all of the above records are Irish, Northern Irish or permanently resident in Ireland.

The official criteria here (set by the Parachute Association of Ireland) requires the records to be slot perfect (above FAI standard). Hold time is same as FAI standard (no set time, but must be static, in control, and recorded on video and/or stills).

The 51-way held for around 3 seconds. Both the POPS and Female records held for around 10 seconds.

Blue skies!
Gordon

Well Done !!!!

and a fine picture, as well.

i had to look really hard, but i finally did find
That green jumpsuit i was lookin' for...
I was surprised at how Little green, there was...
amongst the colors of the formation...

"Q - Ball" green suit , red and white grippers....!!B|;)

i had remembered that there was a large boogie planned for this summer.

it looks like it's going to be a success...:D:)

The four man camera-team (3 on the 51-way) was also all local, and all got great shots. The one I posted at the top of the thread is by Mike Barrett who also nailed a great top-shot of the same formation (on a 3-second hold! B|).

Blue skies!
Gordon
