cliffharris 0 #1 December 18, 2001 Is it possible to get audio thru and S video cable? What are the benefits of using S video? -tia
mountainman 0 #2 December 18, 2001 umm...i think that S-video is only video. you still need to hook up your audio cables to transfer the audio.s-video provides a higher resolution than using the regular video cable that is attached a lot to the red/blue audio cables.-------------JumpinDuo.com...news, guestbook, and links. quade 4 #3 December 18, 2001 S-video is component video. The luminance and chromiance signals are separate. This allows for a cleaner dub than the composite video signal. That said, both S-video and composite video are separate from the audio. The best quality dub available on most consumer decks right now is IEEE 1394 also known as iLink or FireWire. FireWire carries both audio and video in a single data cable.Paulhttp://futurecam.com/skydive.html
nacmacfeegle 0 #4 December 18, 2001 As Paul, said S-video is vid only, That said the S-video is a better quality picture. Firewire, IEE1394 etc is even better, but VCRs with firewire are gonna be costly.
PhreeZone 20 #5 December 19, 2001 All benifit of Firewire is lost on VHS tape. VHS is simply the worst medium to do editing in for quality.I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
nacmacfeegle 0 #6 December 19, 2001 Agreed, I've been editing Dv with PCs and firewire for over four years, but if a VCR has an S video socket, its more than likely an svhs unit which is reasonable quality.VHS is a more 'universal' medium than Dv.
