MrHixxx 0 #1 February 1, 2002 Does anyone know of the 3 camera fatalities last year if the cameras were top or side mounted? Is one or the other more prone to entaglements?thanxxx, Hixxx

PhreeZone 20 #3 February 3, 2002 At least 2 were top mounted. But what got caught on at least one was the ring sight. I think it was two, but a quick search of the archive should clear that one up.As for whats better, you really need to determine what the end purpose is. Paul Quade has wrote some great answers to this question and a search of the archives should turn them up.I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
airann 1 #4 February 3, 2002 Thing is you can get caught up just as bad with a side mount or top. Mine is a top and I have not ever been close to being caught. But I do know what to do big time if I ever do. Mine is top mounted which is a slight issue at head down. BUT... the quaility of my camera outweighs the downside. I have a Sony TRV 11, which I have been told by videographers is a dream for them due to its quality and extras.I do have a PC7, (that needs a little work) but you wont be able to film any RW with that. Or at least most dont. So my camera can do it all as a top mount. Thinkin it has to do more with what you have camera wise and what you want to do. But safety is of the upmost importance. You have to be really aware when jumping camera - to the point it is automatic. Also I invested big time in another bone head wit a top mount box. Your side mount should have a box also, imo. Its safer with a box as aposed to a L bracket.http://www.AirAnn.comUgly Girl #
prost 0 #5 February 4, 2002 The one fatality that I knew personally had a side mount. I do think that a top mount is less likely to snag. It is still possible but a little less likely. I have seen people shoot very good head down with a top mount. You just have to ge used to it being there.William
WmLauterbach 0 #6 February 4, 2002 if shooting 'top mount' was 'bad for doing head down, then why does Eli Thompson (on the cover of parachutist) from the Flyboyz wear a top mount? If top mounts and freeflying didnt go together, I dont think he would use one.... Where you mount the camera has nothing to do with how you fly...YOU fly your body... your camera does NOT fly you....The only time I have jumped a side mount was with a sidewinder, and I was not doing head down, I was filming RW... IMHO a sidewinder is more comfortable for RW because of the mounting angle of the camera...Its ALL about preference....
