christopherm 0 #1 April 18, 2002 Ok, I'm going to start shooting video before to terribly long and am looking for a camera to start with. As much as I would like to, I just don't think I'm going to be able to get a PC110 or something that expensive. So I've been looking at some of the Digital8 cameras that sony offers. Suggestions or reccomendations would be great, pros cons of certain models, etc.-So, how hard is the ground?!
quade 4 #2 April 18, 2002 What are you going to be jumping camera for?Now wait a minute, it's not that I'm trying to be a smart ass. ;^)If you eventually want to jump for your local skydiving school, you might want to see what video format they're jumping right now. It would suck if you bought Digital8 today only to have to buy miniDV a few months from now.If you're absolutely convinced that you'll only ever shoot for your own nefarious purposes, then it makes things a little easier. You'll still want to design your helmet camera system carefully so that you'll have room for future expansion when it comes time that you want to add stills.4-way, big-way, tandem and freefly all have slightly different optimum set-ups. You'll probably want to think about being able to do all of them, but if you design your system for what you intend on specializing in, then things might be a little easier from the beginning.quadehttp://futurecam.com
airdrew20012001 0 #3 April 18, 2002 I jump a Sony TRV 17. Has all the same bells and whistles as some of the pc cameras plus it does digital still on memory stick. Got mine on e-bay for $800. You really want a LANC jack on the camera and the ability to use a firewire. If you go to cheap now you'll just end up buying another camera as soon as you can and the money you spend on a cheaper ($500) camera will be sort of wasted. That's my experience.
